Count 'em, everyone--that's all 17 players, all (reasonably) healthy and raring to go, knock on wood. Congrats to Berg on gutting out the long recovery and getting back on the field! (And good to see shorter recoveries finished for several other players.) New year, new start!

Time for our favorite pointless annual exercise: Where would the Cyclones rank if we moved the entire team to another state? To create this list, we simply plugged the team's gotsoccer points into each state's rankings. Here at Cyclones Central we vote for the move to Colorado (where we'd be 5th in the state) or, heck, to Hawaii, where we'd be number one by a wide margin.

Too often youth sports turns kids into little jerks. Here's an antidote: the combined team picture taken today after the Cyclones and Herndon Black battled to an exciting and hard-fought 1-1 draw. These are rivals, yes, but many are also neighbors, classmates, and friends. They'll appreciate this shot even more in a couple of decades, when they're playing in the same adult leagues, coaching against each other, and watching their own kids compete between the white lines.

Tommy serves in the South Lakes HS freshman-sophomore Volleyboys grudge-match-slash-fundraiser. Two to the right of Tommy is Steven, who's filling in for Niko--long story. Frosh currently leading one game to zip and ahead in the second--of course!

In Germany, they call this game "handnetzsprungfutbol," or "hand-net-leap-soccer," a fact we just now made up.

Made the final, but no final was played -- boo, rain. In lieu of a proper Cyclones celebration, here's a random picture of Italy hoisting the World Cup trophy.

Well, it's going to be weird not to see Bryce on the field for the Cyclones -- but six years of great memories and great friendships aren't going anywhere. May your cross-country running adventures take you to fantastic places, number 22!

Finalists in the top flight of the 2017 EDP Fall Kickoff. Played hard and well, worked off some of the rust, incorporated Steven and Sofanyas into the scheme, and got good news about Joel's nasty knock on the head. Onward to Labor Day weekend and the 2017 Rush for the Cup!

So, yeah, Evan won this year's Reston Kid's Triathlon by finishing 2nd in the pool, 5th on the bike, and 2nd in the run. That's amazing all the way around!

The Cyclones await the first meeting of this year's residential camp. It's safe to say they won't be quite so subdued the rest of the week.

An Italian Magazine Voted This As The Worst 20 Seconds Of Soccer Ever Played Italian magazine I'Ultimo Uomo has come out and said that this is the worst 20 seconds in football. We can't disagree that QPR and Manchester City have seen better days.

Here's what teamwork looks like. These are the seven players who took a shift in goal this season: Altan, and the six other Cyclones who stepped up (and stepped into the nets) when Altan needed finger surgery. Bravo, Carter, Nick, Ryan C., Tommy, Iliass, and Pablo! We're sure that our half-dozen new backup keepers speak as one when they say:

"ALTAN, GET &^$^% #& BETTER SOON."

Get well soon, Berg! We've all got our fingers crossed for a good prognosis on the knee--everyone's rooting for you.

HEART, SKILL, PRIDE, and SUPERIOR TEAMWORK.

At various points this season, the Cyclones have lost a striker, an attacking midfielder, a holding midfielder, a left back, two right backs, a center back, and a goalie. That's every single one of the positions, for those keeping track.

And today they lost, too--in the final of the top flight of the Virginian tournament. After 10 penalty kicks. After 20 minutes of extra time. After 80 minutes of hard fought 1-1 soccer. After losing to the same team (Arlington Red) 5-1 earlier in the weekend.

Funny: it (almost) felt like a win. GO CYCLONES!
