Iowa City East Football Youth Tackle Football
Dedicated to Iowa City East Youth Tackle Football Program
Perfect example of why YSF restricts where the defense can line up in youth football. The kids in this league are not able to develop blocking skills playing this way.
Here is the registration link for current (2024-25 school year) 5th-6th grade City High bound athletes who want to participate in tackle football.

We are very excited to announce that our very own Drew Owen is the new director/coordinator for our youth football program. It will be officially rebranded as the Little Hawk Football Club in the very near future and have brand new social media reflecting that (will link to that as soon as possible).
Please contact Coach Drew Owen for any questions about the upcoming 2024 season. Best of luck, Little Hawks!

It can be tough to watch the growing pains at times, but as a program we (coaches) always left space for the kids to step up and lead their team. Most years this worked out pretty well, often taking a game or two for them to feel confident enough to lead. Some years, however, it either took longer or didn’t happen at all. But that’s okay. It’s youth football- they’ll grow into it.
Thank you to all the team moms and every mom who has trusted us with their child over the years. We couldn’t be here without your support.

Always the goal.
Never give up. Never give in. Trust in your teammates and give them everything you’ve got. It’s not over until the final whistle.
Area 7v7 information. Great program run by quality coaches.
Competing and giving it everything you’ve got for your teammates is one of the main things we stress every year. Down the road that will pay off so much more than the number of wins at the youth level.
Quality organization. There’s a team near you, guaranteed.
The Little Hawks Baseball Club is growing! Due to increased interest, we’ve added FOUR new teams this season, and thus have a few openings on various teams at several different age groups. Because of this, we’ve scheduled our very first winter tryout to fill out those rosters on Sunday, January 7th, 12:30pm-2:30pm at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center (HTRC).
We are looking for players in the following age groups:
6U (current kindergarteners)
Arrive at 12:30pm and finish at 1:45pm
9U (current 3rd graders)
10U (current 4th graders)
11U (current 5th graders)
Arrive at 12:45pm and finish at 2:30pm
Registration Information:
The tryout is on Sunday, January 7th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. 6U players will arrive at 12:30pm for warmups, and 9U-11U will arrive at 12:45pm for warmups. Families should pre-register on the LHBC website, or using the following link: http://www.littlehawksbaseballclub.com/pages/tryouts24winter
Players need to bring a glove, hat, and bat. Molded cleats or tennis shoes can be worn in the facility. If your player doesn't have a glove or bat please let us know and we can help provide equipment.
Please help spread the word!
We’re looking for players and families who want to play baseball that is the next level up from recreational league baseball. Except for the 6U team, teams will expect to play in 5-7 weekend tournaments between May and July, and a club league game 1 night per week. Practices begin in January with 1-2 indoor hitting times per week, and Sunday fielding practices starting in February. When the weather gets warmer in April, teams will begin practicing 2 times per week outdoors. (Some teams may also have hitting practices at the City High School hitting facility as well).
We are proud to be the official feeder program for the City High School boys baseball team, a top high school program in the State of Iowa. We enjoy the privilege of guidance and coaching from Head Coach Brian Mitchell and members of his coaching staff. Their goal is certainly to help build baseball fundamentals, but more so to instill a love for baseball in young boys and the life & character skills that come with being part of our program: resilience, dedication, cooperation, and the JOY OF PLAY!!
IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A LITTLE HAWK!!!

Wishing all our families the happiest of holidays.
Very proud to be a part of YSF.
Success is built one day at a time.
Don’t make it easier.
Details matter. Be mindful of the situation and check your details before every snap. Getting it right MATTERS, in football, every other sport, and most importantly in LIFE.
Our approach has been a simple yet effective one over the years. We guide them through how football works while giving them time/space to figure some of it out on their own, at their pace. Every young athlete’s journey is unique and goes at a different pace than their teammates. Some kids show up ready to go, and some are trying to figure it out first before fully committing to dive in. That’s all a part of youth sports.
We’ve found that most of our 5th graders that were hesitant about contact in their first year show up as 6th graders wanting to improve that aspect the most. We always encourage kids to do their best, and realize sometimes it’s not until Year Two that we get to see what that looks like. And that’s okay.
Quick reminder to our 7th & 8th grade Little Hawks- we have our final stadium cleanup of the year. Be there by 7 AM and we’ll get out of there quickly with good attendance.
Good luck to former ICE Football standout Ostyn Friday on (hopefully) playing in his first D-1 game today. Terrific human being, from a terrific family, and one heck of a competitor.
This is what it’s all about!
Being a great teammate goes so far beyond sports it's ridiculous.
This is the kind of “teachable moments” officiating our program has enjoyed for many years with Kim Hall’s crews. Very grateful for all they’ve done for our kids over the years.
Need more referees like this 👏🫡 #shorts (Via youth_football_network/ig swaggyyr2/ig) ...
These things make you a terrific teammate. That’s super important.
10 Things All Athletes Can Do That Require No Talent
Being a leader is hard work. Not every person/athlete is cut out for it. But if that’s your role, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and put in the extra work. It’s worth it.
When You Were Made A Leader...
Walter Payton passed away 24 years ago today.
Thank you to City High’s senior class for all the hard work you guys have put in through the years. Several of them began their football journeys with our youth program and we love you all.
Be sure to tell them how much you love watching them play. It means the world to every athlete.
Fall sports are coming to a close, and while I spend a lot of time writing about and sharing posts about parents' feelings going through this, I haven't talked very much about what the kids are going through and how hard it must be for them.
So I'm re-sharing this note written to my daughter during the final week of her high school career.
I hope it helps other parents who may not be able to find the right words during this emotional time.💛
