Tokuguay Akitas
We are Tokuguay Akitas! We bred AKC Akitas from 2009-2018. While not currently breeding we still attend dog events, and can help you find your future Akita.
We breed AKC & UKC Akitas. Puppies are available to companion and breeding/show homes when we do produce a litter. We also offer stud service on occasion. All of our dogs are AKC DNA certified. We show our dogs when able, dabble a bit in obedience, and OFA health test our breeding dogs. Currently located in Illinois.
I'm super excited to announce that on October 1st we will have a vendor table at the Fauna Friends Expo
Will have :
- Homemade dog, cat, and small animal pet treats
- Homemade baked goods for humans
- Rescue kittens (m&f) available for adoption
- Akita breed education
anddddd....
We'll be holding a low cost dog & cat vaccine clinic!!! We're very excited about offering this to the community to help stop the spread of canine parvo and feline distemper!
Dogs/puppies will receive a veterinary grade distemper/parvo combo vaccine, kennel cough vaccine, and deworming for $20
Cats/kittens will receive a veterinary grade distemper combo vaccine and deworming for $10.
Pets will be seen one at a time with a strict disinfectant protocol between households until supplies run out.
We are happy to announce the future breeding between Razz and Evie!

So, here's our 2022 review...
Sadly, with broken hearts across the board, we lost Raja this year.
Raja was our first female Akita. Our first long-term show dog. Our first Champion. Mom's shadow. Bear's mother. The smartest Akita I've met.
In April she began to decline, and it wasn't fair to her to keep her going for our sakes. She made it much longer than our vet thought she would, and I'm rather sure she did it out of dedication and love for Mom.
She was 11.5 years old.
8 months later, and she still frequents my dreams.
I'm sure she's still Mom's shadow.
So, here's our 2022 review!
Next, although not officially a part of OUR team, Shay had an AMAZING year as well!
Shay belongs to a friend of ours, Brenda at Karasu Akitas in Michigan, and was a pick puppy of ours.
Brenda and Shay have accomplished so much this year. Shay is now a UKC Champion, has wins towards her Grand Championship, will be finishing off 2022 as Akita Top Ten #3 (pending points updating), AND is AKC Major Pointed and close to her AKC Champion title.
Shay is the daughter of our Stiles, granddaughter of our Loki and Kotka, and great granddaughter of our Raja and Riggs!
I can't wait to see them at UKC Premier 2023!!!
So, here's our 2022 review!
Oh Sasha... you get more and more grey as time goes on, pleaseeee stop!
Sasha's been completely retired from the ring for quite some time. She used to LOVE showing, but as age caught up with her she no longer wanted to- of course, she still wanted to be there, but not run lol.
On the subject of running, we did take her to try lure coursing once this year. She looked at me like I was crazy, and pretended the lure didn't exist XD
She's the best girl. Treats Evie like her own daughter, and Yuuki as a knowingly adopted- but HERS son. She lays with them, lick cleans them, and plays with them frequently. They've managed to keep her young in sport.
She puts up with no BS and will police the younger dogs. She'll sound the alarm baying like a hound if something strange from outside makes a concerning noise, or knocks at the door.
She'll be 10 years old on July 14th. We're very much hoping she'll be with us a few more years, and we'll never be ready for her to go 😢
So, here's our 2022 review!
Little baby Petra finished 2022 off with a bang!
She's finally hit another growth spurt, and isn't much different in size from Evie now (though Evie definitely has significant bulk on her).
She's got good drive and stamina, so I can't wait to see her do lure coursing in 2023. They can't run in those events until a year old, and much to her sadness she didn't hit that until coursing season was already over.
Last show weekend she finished her UKC CH title! We were not expecting that to happen for quite some time, but to our pleasant surprise that growth spurt did her well, and she went BOW for 3 shows back to back- despite being She'd nly half grown back in from aher puppy to adult coat blow! Not only that, be she did it all owner handled by Douglas, who only started coming into the ring with me this year
So, here's our 2022 review!
Evie had an AMAZING year!!!
She's finally started her adult fill-out, and she continues to be the sweetest female I've ever had. She still loves all humans, even total strangers. Loves children. No dog aggression!!! She still fully believes Sasha is her mother instead of her Grandma. She treats Petra likes she's her own child. She ADORES Razzy right back. She still crazy wrestles with Fen and Yuuki.
She finishes off the year with 4.5 of 5 UKC Majors towards her Grand Champion title, and pending a final stats update, she is going to finish UKC 2022 Top Ten #2. She held #1 all year long, but was surpassed by her show friend Addie our last group show weekend! She is also AKC Pointed.
She started lure coursing this year, and had a blast! She earned her Fast CAT "BCAT" title with AKC, and went crazy at UKC Premier back in June, earning her Precision Coursing RACEN (Novice) and RACEA (Advanced) titles, AND she earned her U-CA title in the standard sight-hound style course, becoming the FIRST Akita to earn the title!!! She's my slowest runner, but she goes at a nice steady pace instead of puttering out at the end.
I'm so proud of what she accomplished this year, and can't wait to see what the future holds for her
So, here's our 2022 review!
Next, although officially retired and neutered, Fen has still had a bit of fun this year!
He's still our most athletic dog, and he lives for lure coursing, neck scratches, and h***y bird toys. He loves to fly around the yard with the younger girls playing wrestle tag.
He finishes off 2022 earning his Fast CAT "BCAT" title, and TWO "Altered Best In Show" VDS show wins!
So, here's our 2022 review!
Firstly, we brought home Razzy 10/01/2022. A new addition wasn't in the plans this year, but the moment I saw this goofy 5yo self-masked brindle needing a home, I was in love.
It's been a challenge for sure converting a dog that's been a kennel dog his entire life to a house dog, but he's coming along nicely! He's a sweetheart, a bit of a bull-in-china-shop, and very very happy. He's been learning to show, and to sit patiently for things. He absolutely ADORES Evie, and howls for her anytime she's not with him.
He finishes off the year with all minimum needed UKC points towards his CH title, and 1 of 3 majors needed. He is currently on the UKC Top Ten list for 2022, but we'll see if he stays on it as he's #10 lol. He will be going to UKC Premier June 2023 regardless, where I hope he finds love in lure coursing.
Razzy has completed the following OFA testing: OFA Good Hips, Normal Elbows, Normal Patellas, Normal Basic Cardiac, Normal Thyroid. We will get eyes done in the next few months.

If the PERFECT home came along for Fen, we would consider placing him.
He is 3 years young!
Training has gone a long way since a year ago, (I would not have considered placing him back then), and if the right home came along I feel as though he would be happier in a single pet home. He has basic obedience titles, conformation titles, and lure coursing titles.
He will either stay here forever, or go to the perfect fit, no exceptions. I will do what is in HIS best interest, not ours.
What does Fen want/need?
- Large privacy fenced yard (lives to run). He loves his yard. He's highly upset anytime any wildlife is in the yard and he sees through the window. Whenever another dog is in the yard, he INSISTS on going out with it after them to ensure they haven't "ruined" his yard. Will dig if not checked on every 15 mins or so, if he sees/gears wildlife behind fence, so no leaving outside while not home. Will not use a dog house. Likes to perch on top of yard tables or hay bales. Does not mind rain or snow.
- no cats or other small animals (prey drive). Zero exceptions. He will chase, and he will eat.
- no children (he is too protective of them). He would be fine with dog savy teenagers, but he is too much dog and too protective to handle rough housing between two children.
- Needs to be the only pet, he doesn't take kindly to being pushed around by another dog. It's possible to bring in a female puppy after him, or if you have one now, but males will not work out, and often adult dogs are not thrilled to have a dominant adult male move in
- A firm but loving owner. He WILL push boundaries if allowed. He is stubborn. He is however quite submissive to a firm owner, and a VERY good boy.
- He would LOVE an active household. Long walks, hikes, camping, lure coursing, etc. He's the most athletic Akita I have ever owned. His stamina far outlasts mine or the other dogs'.
- Corn/wheat/soy free diet. No allergies, but needs to stay in shape with good muscle. He thankfully will not gorge himself on food, even if free fed he keeps a nice lean muscular weight
- Year round flea/tick & heartworm preventative. He likes his outside too much, and will chase small wildlife, so this is a must, for his protection. All wildlife has fleas, no matter what time of year.
- ALL the "ducks". He is obsessed with h***y/squeaky bird stuffies. Most are ducks (so he just knows all vaguely bird shaped toys to be ducks) but some are technically geese, pheasants, etc. They are his favorite. He treasures them. I have to buy them several times a year as OTHER dogs get ahold of them, he himself does not destroy them. He will fetch them longer than your energy to throw them lasts.
He loves car rides, does prefer to ride in the front passenger seat if allowed, does a big pout if not allowed.
Prefers to eat treats/chews while laying on a dog bed, or the couch, will actively seek out a bed-type surface if given something.
100% house trained. Crate trained if human is present, will sleep in a crate at night. Better left loose if humans are not home, he wants to patrol the house if home alone.
Kept 100% current on neurotic levels of vetting (as I am a tech). Neutered. Microchipped. No skin allergies. No ear infections.
No fear of storms, fireworks, gunfire, etc. If he happens to sound the alarm, definitely check out what is upsetting him as it's something quite out of the norm.
Will talk. Likes to say "boof", often, gets excited if you say boof back to him. Especially boof-boof-boof. Sighs, whines, yawn yowls. No excessive noise.
Loves when you get high pitch voice.
Responds to Fen, Fenny, Fenny-Fen, Bub, and Bubbos.
Great with grooming. Behaves during baths, nail trims, brushing, blow outs, paw pad fur sc******ng, etc. No a**l gland issues.
Again, so long as our home is the best option, he will stay here. He is very much loved. We'd be incredibly sad to see him leave. But also want what is best for him. He only gets to roam half the house however, has to be crated at night, and has a heart attack whenever he so much as sees one specific other dog of ours (great with our younger girls though) and we know he'd be happier if able to have free reign and follow his humans through the house, and sleep sprawled out on the floor at night rather than in an XL crate.
Some further information on our potential Fall 2023 litter...
We have not had a litter since 2018.
In that time I have since gone on to become a veterinary technician, and have thus upped my standard on pre-home vetting on puppies. They now will come pre-vaccinated with kennel cough, and NeoPar will be done at 4 weeks old. Winnebago County just has horrible Parvo rates each year, and we just are not willing to take that chance.
Likewise an unfortunate side effect of the pandemic is that medical care, as well as everything else, has gone up in price so to make this litter possible our puppy prices have had to raise past what they were in 2018. I'll go into that below.
Standard vet care for adult dogs and puppies has gone up due to supply costs from manufacturers, so even with employee discounts, the cost of all vetting is more than it used to be. We can an only improve level of care, not decrease. Then OFA Hips and Elbows alone have gone up $200 each dog, not counting other OFAs or genetic testing.
Food has gone up $10-20 per 35-40lb bag.
Show entry fees are $25-38 per dog per event. We always have multiple dogs entered, sometimes in 2 events daily. AKC shows are 1 show per day, UKC shows are 2 shows per day. Sometimes we have lure coursing on top of that. We typically run $200-800+ per show weekend, with usually averaging 1 show weekend per month. This is not counting gas to and from shows, which are 20 mins to 5 hours away (usually most are 2 hours away), or motel costs for long weekends too far away to commute each morning (with us staying at Red Roof Inns, which are the cheapest pet friendly motels). We have also done these shows 2019-2022 without producing a single litter, so I am currently far into the negative numbers there. While not expecting to break even there, we also can't go an additional several grand in the hole for a litter. We also CANNOT just stop showing, as it is something expected of us as a reputable breeder.
This is all of course not at all factoring the cost of litter supplies, such as whelping box/materials/tools, blanket and wood shavings, heating pads, etc.
With that said, the range of pricing is no different between pet home vs show home. We are also still charging below average for a show bred health tested puppy of the breed.
Would anyone in the area of Rockford, IL be interested in being a co-own or guardian home for a male puppy?
We would like to add a male to our show team and hopefully later breeding program, without housing another male in our personal home.

"Fen" came to us at a year old when his pet home returned him to his breeder and she asked if we would take him on since we'd been focusing on showing.
Fen has been an amazing show dog, and while he has a lot of filling out to do, he is already earning his titles.
