This cutie pa tootie puppy goes on a 30 minute walk with me.
That is just the right amount of structured walking time she needs.
Did you know? That a general rule of thumb for pups is 5 minutes of structured walking per month of age.
Example a 6 month old puppy would need approximately 30 minutes per day.
If they were to have more than that too early in life it can lead to early onset arthritis and ligament problems later in life.
Playing around doesn't count towards this though, play is very important for pups.
Also try to avoid stairs and taking them running until they are much older.
This lovely lady walks on her leash so well with no pulling, so her reward for that is she gets to sniff! This will help motivate her to keep walking on a loose leash.
Benefits of letting your dog sniff on walks when they are beside you-
๐พenvironmental enrichment
๐พ mental stimulus
๐พ reduces stress
๐พusing it as a reward when they make the choice to walk beside you
๐พ dogs sniff 5-10 a second, that's a great work out for those nasal muscles too
Now I'm not saying stop and let your dog sniff EVERYTHING.
If a dog pulls me to get to a scent they get directed in the opposite direction because pulling does not get rewarded.
But it is crucial to let them read the local newspaper, so they can get the information about their surroundings.
-Staci Lemke, CPDT-KA, RVT explains that sniffing is how dogs gather and process information to interpret the world. โImagine someone taking you to an art gallery, then blindfolding you. You wouldnโt get much out of it, would you? I imagine thatโs how it is for dogs that are rushed along on walks without the opportunity to stop and sniff,โ she says.

With training I always say three key things are patience, persistence and consistency.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel with puppies, you just got to keep at it and you'll end up with a well mannered family member once they have matured.
I thought I should introduce myself ๐
My name is Chenay and I have always loved animals, thanks to my up bringing we always had all sorts of animals around us.
So of course I wanted a career involved with animals! ๐๐พ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐
I studied Agriculture and worked on a dairy farm after leaving school, then volunteered at the SPCA, worked at Waiwera hot pools (where I met my husband) whilst studying Animal care.
I then started working at a Vet clinic whilst studying Veterinary Nursing and that was 12 years ago.
I learned so much in that time. One of my favorite parts is running Puppy Pre-School which I still do.
My husband and I now have our own family with 3 children ๐ฅฐ
I love the outdoors and take the kids on bush walks often to foster their love of it too.
So combining both loves of outdoors and dogs I thought why not offer my services to the community to take their dogs out walking instead of staying home.
I know when my boy Kairo had to stay home without us, he would give me the most saddest eyes!!
Over the years while I was working he had dog walkers and went to daycare which made me feel better about breaking up his days at home.
Unfortunately we had to say good bye to my boy Kairo below last year, he lived a good long life being part of our family, but cancer got him. ๐ญ
We miss him terribly so getting to meet and walk all these dogs has filled a bit of a gap for me and I promise to love your doggo like the coolest Aunty would ๐
.
My youngest child is 7 months old which is why I'm not working at the clinic, so sometimes he comes on walks with me, he loves being in the front pack watching the doggos.
So yeap that's a little download of my life so far but if you have any questions please feel free to ask. ๐ฅฐ
The face I get when I'm dropping him back home ๐ข๐

Sorry bud, see you in a few days though!
Some pictures of the gorgeous doggos I currently walk.
"Buddy, sit" "Good dog" "Buddy, look" ๐ธ photo snapped "Good dog" ๐ฅฐ
As part of the walks I try and incorporate a little training to get their mental stimulation going even more plus "look" is a great command for holding their attention and distracting them when needed.
Getting them to sit, and look is great for photo snapping too ๐
