Driver William Dutton of the 2nd Anti-Aircraft Sub. Park D. Australian Field Artillery loses his life.
A motor driver from Brisbane, QLD, Dvr Dutton embarked with the 301st (Mechanical Transport), 8th Company, Army Service Corps (17th Divisional Ammunition Park) on 22nd December 1914 aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40). He was later transferred to the 2nd Ammunition Sub Park, Australian Field Artillery.
Yesterday whilst transporting ammunition to Hell Fire Corner along the Ypres-Menin Road, Dvr Dutton's lorry was hit by a shell. He was recovered from the wreckage and transferred to the 44th Casualty Clearing Station where he died from wounds on 21st August 1917. His friend, Driver Oliver William Woolfrey, was also killed in the explosion and is buried at the Menin Road South Military Cemetery.

Fred Leslie Biddle, D. S. O of the 2nd Brigade, Australian Field Artillery who lost his life 100 years ago today aged 31.
He was the son of James and Helena Isabel Biddle, of 92, Vale Street, East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
A soldier, of East Melbourne, Victoria, prior to the war, he served for 10 years in the Australian Field Artillery where he was commissioned on 20th October 1910 and promoted to Captain (Capt) on 1st September 1913. At the outbreak of war Capt Biddle was commissioned in the 2 FAB and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire for Gallipoli. The unit was withdrawn to Egypt in December 1915 and subsequently relocated to the Western Front, France, in March 1916. He was promoted to Major on 12th March 1916. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order on 4th October 1916 for conspicuous gallantry over a three day period in July 1916 at the Battle for Pozieres during which he was wounded for the first time. Maj Biddle was repatriated to England for treatment and rehabilitation before rejoining the 2 FAB as temporary commanding officer on 25th September 1916. He was Mentioned in Despatches for distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty in the field during November 1916. Maj Biddle was wounded a second time on 16th August 1917 and died of these wounds the following day at No 32 Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium.

In memory of Private William Evans if the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers who lost his life 100 years ago today.
Private Williams had been attached to the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company for approximately two weeks in Belgium, when on 9th July 1917, he was killed in action while constructing dugouts on the opposite side of the Yser Canal. His party was attacked by German troops, retreat made impossible by the destruction of the pontoon bridges and the entire party was killed or taken prisoner of war.

In memory of Gunner James Henry McGahey of the 8th Brigade, Australian Field Artillery who lost his life 100 years ago today aged 26.
He was the son of James and Mary Jane McGahey, of 13, Mathoura Road, Toorak, Victoria, Australia.
A 26 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 31st January 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements of the 23rd Howitzer Brigade from Melbourne on 20th May 1916 aboard HMAT Medic. On arrival in France, he transferred to the 8th Field Artillery Brigade on 6th January 1917 and served in France and Belgium. He was killed in action at Messines on 7 July 1917.

In memory of Lieutenant Alfred Jesse Edmonston-Fearn of the 8th Brigade, Australian Field Artillery who lost his life 100 years ago today aged 30.
He was the son of Sefton and Maria L. Edmonston-Fearn; husband of D. Edmonston-Fearn, of 71, Barkly Street, Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. He was a native of Rawalpindi, India.
A professional soldier from Thornbury, Victoria, he embarked from Melbourne on 20th May 1916. Lt Edmonston-Fearn had previously served with the Royal Horse Artillery in England and on 6th July 1917, aged 30, he was killed in action at Messines Ridge, Belgium.

He was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Clegg, of Wandin, Victoria, Australia.
Private Clegg enlisted on the 12th July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 11th October 1915. He was killed in action on 2nd July 1917 at Pozieres, France, whilst serving with the 46th Battalion, and is memorialised at Underhill Farm Cemetery, Ploegsteert, Belgium.

Captain William Thomas Bryan of the Australian Infantry is killed at age 35. He is the first student enrolled at Christian Brothers College in Perth. He was dux of the college in 1897 and 1898 and served as president of the Old Boys Association from 1907-1914. At Aquinas College he has a student house (faction) named after him called “Bryan House” as a mark of respect for what he did for Christian Brothers College.

Corporal John Patrick O'Donnell. 10th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, Australian Imperial Force.
John P. O'Donnell was born in County Carlow in 1890.He served in the Australian army first fighting at Gallipoli and landing with the first wave of forces on 25 April 1915. He later fought in France and seen action at the Battle of the Somme. In 1918 he was invalided home, during which time he wrote the last six poems of his only collection, dealing with the war from the perspective of an Australian. His brother Tom was killed in action in September 1917 while serving with the AIF.

Corporal Roy Albert Wheaton of the Australian Light Horse is killed in Palestine. He was awarded the Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal for attempting to save Captain Benjamin Digby Gibson of the Australian Light Horse from drowning at Hod Masaid Egypt when he brought him in from 100 yards, but sadly the Captain died.
