An urban story slam for the creative at heart. Physically defunct, but always on our mind. See 'about' for the fully story... What are TEN story slam events like?
One thing's for sure - you never know what you're going to hear. Each event has a unique theme and for 2 hours, everyday people summon their courage to get on stage and share their very own true stories based on that theme. To repay their bravery, the audience applauds enthusiastically, cries on cue, laughs when appropriate and is supportive of all those on stage baring their soul. In return, ever
yone has a wonderful evening. We all mingle, learn a little bit more about each other, patronize one of our city's wonderful establishments and witness something amazing - a community coming out to support one another. It's a beautiful thing! What are the rules for telling a story? We ask that your story be true and be told from memory in under 10 minutes. (that's right, no teleprompters, cheat sheets, or Sharpie notes on the back of your hand - those never turn out well anyways.) And if at any time you feel so inclined to share a story - just let us know! What makes a good story/storyteller? Someone who is genuine. Stories that make us laugh or bring us to tears are wonderful, but the best stories are those that make us think, prompt reflection, or encourage us to act. Stories that make us better people for having heard them. Nervous about telling a story? Don't be! We promise that sharing your story will be an incredibly rewarding and absolutely cathartic experience. And if you'd like someone to bounce some ideas off of or offer advice on constructing your story, just let us know - we'd love to help you workshop it out! Who puts these events on? Besides the dynamic duo of Stacey and Amanda, it takes a team of volunteers to put TEN events on. Our amazing graphic designer - Amanda Yates (www.amandayates.com, @yatesamanda)
Our fabulous photographers - Neil Das (www.thedasslereffect.wordpress.com) and Lea McRoberts (www.leamcroberts.carbonmade.com)
Our audio equipment is routinely donated by 100.3 Gen X Radio and manned by Jeff McHugh
And wonderful establishments like Foam Coffee and Beer, Blueberry Hill, Left Bank Books, and Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar continue to host us for free. We love you all and couldn't possibly do it without you!
