The Varsity Blues college scandal is something I have been following and not because "Aunt Becky" or a "Desperate Housewife" were indited. There's a larger story at play. As a 22 year old on the verge of graduating with high distinction in the top 10% of my class with a double major, a deans list student, recently inducted into an honour society with countless hours of volunteer experience with children and youth while, battling the financial struggles that come from being raised by a single parent - I knew education was where my career would land, the path through which I would make a difference. As I applied to the Faculty of Education a white peer told me "people like me won't get in because people like you will". It was said like fact. We were standing in front of Sidney Smith with another peer all waiting to enter our Sociology of Gender Relations class, (ironic) and I remember being stunned into silence. Words failed me, her statement was untrue I knew, yet it stung. Years later I've had the fortune to do some creative and unexpected things in my career but the field of education is not a neutral one- I've learned to navigate it by code-switching, and creating my network of allies. It's why issues of diversity, systemic oppression and inclusion resonate deeply and is part of my life's work.

I probably should buy stocks in amazon considering how much time I spend on that site šŸ˜‚ all jokes aside- these are some incredible resources to introduce children to accessibility and art appreciation. What are the stories of the artists behind some of the most famous works? What does art mean? How do you express a sense of self and belonging through the arts?

Early childhood education is one of the most critical elements in a childā€™s education as it sets the foundation. I hope for years and decades to come we protect the spaces, the educators and the programs that are necessary for the well being of children.

Pedagogical documentation is a process of reflection, thinking, critique and meaning making in collaboration. It is about checking our biases or uncovering them, it is in service of children. ā€œItā€™s a process not a displayā€. here I come! Can you tell Iā€™m really excited about this conference?

Sometimes when I walk around this classroom in its state of calm, I can hear the laughter and joy of our girls. I love seeing who theyā€™re becoming in this space. I love the teacher Iā€™m becoming in this space and I love, love working with the most awesome co-teacher ever. This job brings me such joy for so many reasons.
