Norma Again 16/02/2024

This is an addendum to the blog I just posted on my friend Norma Delbonis. Just as I published the previous blog on her, I received another email from Ana Augé, who is the person working on Norma's file at the Centro Documentación Faro de la Memoria. In this she said she had found more information on Norma's demise. Apparently there were testimonies by both Susana Collinet's sister, and a group of women who were captured and detained at one of the military locations (read torture and death prisons)....

Let me begin this blog by saying that this entry is not part of the story Rima: a Love Song The Trial : About six months ago my husband and I discovered an Argentine film on Netflix called, The Trial. It was in Spanish with English subtitles and it documented the trial of the junta members--the military dictators--of the devastating Argentine Dirty war on its own people, mostly young people....

There is nothing like ACCEPTANCE! Being with someone who LOVES you as the FULL package you are and is willing to come to the table and do the work TOGETHER to develop a PREDICTABLE sense of SAFETY & RELIABILITY is what every long lasting relationship needs.

Acceptance is at the core of what creates a healthy, emotionally secure, trusting, deeply loving and LONG LASTING relationship.

"Caught this little sucker in my basement this morning. I thought I'd break his little neck for sure as soon as I got a hand on him. But then as I looked into his pathetic, cute little face, I began to question this entitlement I had to whether another creature should continue existing or not just because he had been occupying the same space as me...

Long story short: I caught a mouse in my basement, stared at it for a really long time, and then walked it to the park. We are all blessed to share this air today...breathe deep." ❤❤❤

I did not know that!
“Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.”

Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets, even today, for her revolutionary discovery. (via alliterate)
OH WAIT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CECILIA PAYNE.
Cecilia Payne’s mother refused to spend money on her college education, so she won a scholarship to Cambridge.
Cecilia Payne completed her studies, but Cambridge wouldn’t give her a degree because at that time there's not much exposure for woman, so she said to heck with that and moved to the United States to work at Harvard.
Cecilia Payne was the first person ever to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College, with what Otto Strauve called “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy.”
Not only did Cecilia Payne discover what the universe is made of, she also discovered what the sun is made of (Henry Norris Russell, a fellow astronomer, is usually given credit for discovering that the sun’s composition is different from the Earth’s, but he came to his conclusions four years later than Payne—after telling her not to publish).
Cecilia Payne is the reason we know basically anything about variable stars (stars whose brightness as seen from earth fluctuates). Literally every other study on variable stars is based on her work.
Cecilia Payne was the first woman to be promoted to full professor from within Harvard, and is often credited with breaking the glass ceiling for women in the Harvard science department and in astronomy, as well as inspiring entire generations of women to take up science.
Cecilia Payne is awesome and everyone should know her.

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so, and she dictated these words:

Dear God,
"Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to swim and play with balls. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog. I really miss her."
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the mailbox at the post office. A few days later, she asked me if I thought God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page were the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this

note:
Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.
Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter. 🙏🏻❤️

RIMA A LOVE SONG: Chapter Two The Ocean All morning Helen and her father sat in silence watching Brazil take shape. The plane followed the contours of the coast. At first she watched the rolling green hills imprinted with shadows of clouds drifting languorously along, blocking the sun’s rays on the land below. Then she noticed the contrast of the green land with the sparkling blue ocean water, which now and again appeared, then was lost again to the trajectory of the flight....
