Simon Scott Guitars is a small business based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire founded and run by myself, Simon Scott. I am a qualified guitar technician, luthier and guitar teacher. As a luthier I design and create unique handcrafted guitars. My aim is to provide each customer with a high quality musical instrument that meets their individual requirements. You will be supported every step of the w
ay, through all aspects of design and construction (including selection of materials, hardware, shape, scale length/size and finish) to identify your preferences and to meet your playing style. Each of these aspects will be discussed fully so you understand all of the options available and can be confident in your choices. Quality tone-woods, pickups and hardware will then be sourced to provide you with a musical instrument that is tailored to your individual requirements and to your tastes in tone, playability, aesthetic and ergonomics. Other services available include general setup, repair, modification, re-frets, refinishing, installation of hardware and advice. All work is carried out using quality hand tools and small workshop machinery, using traditional techniques and workmanship to create guitars that have that something that sets them apart from standard factory models. All work from custom build to repair is carried out with the utmost care and attention to detail to ensure the fullest customer satisfaction. Guitar lessons

Music has always been an important part of my life. I have been studying and playing music since the age of 5 years old when I began learning to play keyboard and piano. At the age of 7 I took guitar up as my preferred instrument. I have been an active musician since I began learning and have performed with many groups of different styles of music including keyboard groups, as part of an orchestra and as part of several local rock bands. Shortly after picking up the guitar I began systematically completing musical examinations in guitar and piano playing and I now have a diploma from Nationwide Music Examinations (DipNME) in electric guitar playing, grade 8 London College of Music (LCM) in acoustic guitar, grade 8 Rock School Examinations in electric guitar and grade 6 London College of Music in piano playing. After school I completed both Music and Music Technology A-levels at Scarborough Sixth Form College, it was then that I decided I wanted to learn how the instruments I played were built and repaired. I went on to study lutherie at the Totnes School of Guitar making under the guidance of master luthiers Phil Messer and the late Norman Reed. This led me to start my own business making and repairing guitars. Since this time I have furthered my knowledge and experience of lutherie, through research and practical experience from working on a wide range of commissions and repairs. I am also continuing to expand my knowledge of music playing, theory and production whilst writing and playing guitar with my current band Bharghest.
