10 years y’all! An entire decade!🤯
I graduated with my Doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) 10 years ago, to the day!🎓
It has been an ADVENTURE! Across 3 states, I’ve worked in outpatient clinics & hospitals, w/ athletes to get them back to collegiate sports, & w/ people needing much physical assistance merely to sit edge of bed. I’ve learned what I love & value about my career, & what I don’t like as well.
I have learned that some of my favorite people to work with are seniors🥹
And due to the vast range of patients over the years, I gained exactly the knowledge & understanding necessary to build The Balance Boost. I know precisely how to guide people from wobbly & unsteady, to strong & confident, regardless of their starting level.
I love this picture from graduation day because I am with 2 of my very favorite people. My grandparents have been my biggest supporters & cheerleaders, both during the grueling years of PT school, as well as thru the many twists and turns of my career. I have no doubt that my love & admiration for them contributes to my affinity for treating my senior patients in the clinic.
While The Balance Boost is certainly crafted to serve anyone looking to improve their balance, it is tailored for ages 60+. Looking around, I see so many therapists & trainers showcasing high level balance training for young people & for athletes. Looking around, I see nearly zero fitness professionals serving the senior population. Getting people back to sport is wonderful, yes. But what about getting people back on their feet, literally, after they fall? What about ensuring family members remain safe & independent on their own, so they don’t have to move into nursing homes? The quality of life that can be preserved & extended thru maintaining our balance & strength is one of the most powerful outcomes I have witnessed as a PT over the last 10+ years.
So here I am, 1 decade into my career, now starting this new branch, The Balance Boost, to extend my reach further & wider than any of my local, one-on-one sessions. Welcome to my little unsexy corner of the internet. I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to see where the next 10 years will take us🤍💪

Quick tip for stairs! 💥
Whether due to injury/ pain, decreased balance, or simply lack of strength, stairs can be a pain to navigate, and often can be cause for people to stay home and not go out as much. 😞
If this is you, or someone you know, try this sidestep method! 👀
Especially useful for stairs with only 1 railing within reach, the side-step method lets you have BOTH hands on the railing, which gives you more support and helps you feel way more confident! 🙌
I have had SO many patients tell me that this simple strategy has made it so they no longer dread:
🔹leaving their home, or
🔹going down their basement stairs, or
🔹visiting their daughter at her house with all the stairs to get in!

Our balance is affected by a LOT of factors!
💪 Strength- if leg & core muscles are weak, this will decrease our stability & balance
👁️ Vision- our eyes are constantly feeding our brain information about our movements & position compared to our environment, which is huge in helping us balance
🧘 Posture- changes to our posture over time can change our body’s center of gravity, which makes it more difficult to maintain our balance
🦵Proprioception- this is our body’s ability to communicate with our brains to tell us what position our joints are in. If our proprioception is impaired, our balance suffers, and we are more likely to roll an ankle or fall
🦶Sensation- our cutaneous (superficial) nerves’ ability to feel the ground beneath us certainly helps us to balance. Impaired sensation, especially in the bottoms of our feet, can decrease our balance
🌀Vestibular function- our inner ear contains our vestibular organs, which give our brain information about which way our heads are moving, which direction, and how quickly. This system can become weakened and make it hard to balance, but it can also be strengthened through specific exercises
💥The Balance Boost💥 teaches you specific exercises to improve your strength, proprioception, vestibular function, AND posture- so you can optimize your balance.
➡️ Did you know all of these factors play a part in your balance? Which one(s) do you need to work on most?
Hi there!
I'm Holly, creator of The Balance Boost. I am a licensed physical therapist with a Doctorate in physical therapy, with over a decade of experience working with patients to prevent falls, improve balance, and regain mobility to get their lives back.
I absolutely love what I do, and I came up with the idea for The Balance Boost because I wanted to reach more people and expand the prevention aspect of falls (since a lot of the time in physical therapy clinics, we are seeing patients after they have already sustained an injury from a fall).
Outside of work, I love to travel, workout, try new restaurants, and spend time with my husband & our two little ones.
Thank you for being here, and I can't wait to serve you!
