How a naturopath thinks about disease and illness ➰

A medical diagnosis, the naming of a disease or illness is not the most important aspect of taking a patients case..

While it is incredibly important to know the names of diseases, their pathophysiology and all the effects this can have on the body - what naturopaths are really looking for is: what actually caused this illness or disease in the first place ?

There can be many, many different and overlapping causing for any single disease or illness - and these causes can be different for each individual person !

This is why our initial consults go for 40 minutes or longer - not 10. So we can gather all the information necessary to determine what’s really going on for you

We also have functional testing methods, that look at literally - the function of different parts of your body !

Sometimes the things that are simply overlooked by conventional medicine, can be the root cause and driving factors of whatever it is you have come in for.. for example:

• level of intestinal permeability
• gut microbiome status
• presence of pathogens
• dietary intake & ability to actually absorb nutrients
• lifestyle
• family history
• genetics
• your personal history
• past medicine use
• exposure to chemicals or heavy metals

Plus more..
If you have a Medical diagnosis, are perhaps taking something to alleviate your symptoms, but feel like you’re not getting any better and want to get to the real reason you’re feeling unwell - book an appointment with me for a thorough health investigation and analysis ✔️

To all my high achieving, goal setting, dreamers and chasers, the go getters, ‘type a’, successful and driven ladies 🤍

If you have it al together on the surface, but still an underlying worry, fear, perhaps not even conscious..

- but your breath shortens or your heart quickens, your stomach pits and you feel a little shaky a few times a week, maybe even every day..

This can be related to untreated levels of anxiety. Now whether you identify with this term or not, perhaps you just feel stressed, near burn out, overwhelmed.. and do all of these things to compensate - please know there is more support available to you !

If you are simply prone to feeling this way, you may find a tailored health plan incredibly beneficial for you. The most important part of managing this is ensuring your nervous system and adrenals don’t ever get to ‘burnout’ stage, where you might not be able to drag yourself out of bed. Underlying stress and anxiety can have this effect if left unmanaged long term

Our beautiful herbs can be incredibly supportive, not only for in the moment anxiety but long term support of the proper functioning of our nervous systems. A bespoke nutrition and lifestyle plan tailored to you, your needs and any deficiencies you may have are also really supportive and are included in naturopathy consults with me

My books for April are now open too ! The first week is already booked as well as a few days later in the month. If you would like a very discounted ( only for the next 12 weeks ! ) naturopathy appointment with me please direct message me here or email [email protected] to secure your place. I would love to help you continue your success, continue dreaming and achieving all of your goals - while maintaining optimum health and preventing any future issues 🤍✨

G A B A 〰️

Our main 'inhibitory' neurotransmitter GABA or Gamma aminobutyric acid; responsible for calming effects in the nervous system

to create GABA - we need to be consuming adequate amounts of glutamine (found largely in animal sources of protein) - bone broth is a wonderful way to get this important amino acid in.

Sulphur rich vegetables such as your brussels sprouts and caggabe are also okay sources of glutamine.

The other precursor for GABA creation is B6 - and it ism important to be getting in all of our B vitamins (not just looking at single Bs) as they all work together for a number of different processes within the body. Sources of your B vitamins include meat products (especially the liver which can be ground and added to dishes such as spaghetti bolognaise so you can't tell, or pate). These nutrients can also be found in eggs, dairy, poultry, leafy greens, legumes and seafood.

Low GABA symptoms can include:

- increased anxiety
- inability to cope with stress
- insomnia or disturbed sleep
- headaches and muscle pains
- difficulty concentrating
- poor memory

While food is obviously an important factor in ensuring we are getting the nutrients needed to produce GABA - there are other reasons for it to be low as well; such as poor gut health (nutrients not getting absorbed properly), genetics (in terms of methylation issues), prolonged, unmanaged stress, and poor lifestyle choices (ie. not exercising).

Naturopathy can help to address all areas of this that are affecting you specifically - and again this may not be the only cause for your anxiety, or any of the other symptoms on this list. This is why having a thorough naturopathic consult is so important - so we can investigate exactly what is going on for you and then come up with a plan to balance your specific issues.

Hope you're all well - I have one appointment left for next week (Wednesday 24th - anywhere from 8:15-11:45) if you would like this place please send through a message here or email [email protected]
