Just returned from volunteering with Elephant Nature Park what an honour to spend our time with these truly magical creatures.

All these elephants have been rescued from the cruel acts we humans expect from them such as:
Performing in a circus
Street begging
Riding at elephant camps
Street festivals
Logging

Hooks, slingshots, beatings are still used to get the elephant to perform.

In order to turn a wild elephant into a tame elephant it has to go through a process called 'Phajaan'. If you don't know what this is, look it up. It is utterly barbaric and inhumane. Every time there is a new owner, phajaan is used again. Sometimes there can be as many as 20 owners!

We were horrified to know this is still acceptable in 2023 and that people are still endorsing it by attending such things.

Stiff from years of amphetamine forced usage and the ears of torture.
Heartbreaking and now we are hearing that more elephants are needed to meet the demand of returning tourists.

Heartbreaking news today. As Asia opens up to tourism it’s essential that you only visit ethical projects. These souls will now be taken out of this fabulous project and used for goodness knows what,treated in ways that are barbaric.I am sorry beautiful souls.

We are Devastated😞

It is with the worst sorrow and the greatest heartache we have ever felt that we must share that we have lost Mo To and baby Sai Fah. The owner has decided to take them out of our program. Our partner and friend Lek Chailert and we gave it our best, we tried to negotiate their freedom, we tried to nudge at the owner's heart, we tried to reason with him. But despite our greatest efforts they were taken away from us. The only way he would stay is if we allowed the old cruel way. We can't and will not.

Mo To and Sai Fah lived under our loving care for a little over 6 months. In this time, we all saw their beautiful transformation and their bond. Believe us when we say this has sicken us.. It has shaken us to our core as we had so many hopes and dreams for these beautiful ones. We know that when working with these owners some will truly embrace change, some will try, and some will just feel culture is what must rule their hearts.

Would we do it all over again? The answer is YES! Mo To and Sai Fah deserved to have been given this chance. They deserved to know there is love and kindness in the world. Mostly, no one nor anything can take the joy, the delicious treats, the love from our little ones. We know we did all in our power to make their life the best as possible. We know they were happy while they were under our care, while they were part of our family.

Today for us is a day of mourning. We are truly devastated. We won't post anything else today. We know that from this and anything else that for sure will be thrown at us we will get up. We have to many lives that depend on us.

We know that just like us, many of you will be devastated. We are truly sorry for the pain this will cause. Many others will be furious, but we ask you to please be kind to us, this is in no way Lek's, nor Colby's nor my fault (Diana) we have always said we can't make any promises because we are fully aware this can happen. We can only try our best.

To our babies....... 💔

Baby Sai Fah, beautiful girl Mo To we truly love you. We will keep an eye out to see if there is any way we can get you back. We promise we will NEVER give up!
