[Results of 2018 EDiS KNC]
Congratulations to SDS 1 (Jaedong Jeong, Leomar Doctolero), HYDS 5 (Anirudh Nair, Dona Mobeen), and HDS 1 (Seokjin Yun, Yoonsung Kong) for winning the Open, Rookie, and EFL categories of 2018 EDiS KNC. Also congratulations to Jun Tae Park (KDS 1), Zhanessa Bryon (IDS 2), and Yingwa (Silvia) Sun (SDS 2) for topping the speaker tab in Open, Rookie, and EFL categories, and to Sooyoung Park (YUU) for topping the adjudicator tab.

[EFL Best Speaker Correction]
In finalizing the Tab release process we have realized that SDS 2 Silvia Sun was left out of the EFL Best Speaker group. Silvia accrued total speaker points of 388 and was tied for 10th, which we separated using standard deviation. In that process, as Open Best Speaker award proceeds EFL, the EFL rankings were done with her excluded. After we have broken the ties, Silvia should have taken place as EFL Best Speaker but unfortunately, that change was not reflected.
However, regardless of our mistakes, we feel that the individuals who deserve recognition should receive due credit. At the same time, we also feel that recognizing someone as one of the top speakers and taking it away due to our mistake was also unjust. Therefore, we will also expand the EFL Best Speaker Awards by 1 place as well.
With this in mind, this would be the revised EFL Best Speaker Awards list:
1. Yingwa (Silvia) Sun SDS 2 388 pts
2. Eunkyu Lim CUDS 1 386 pts
3. HyeJoon Jung YUU3 384 pts
4. Yoon Jeong Lim EDiS 1 383 pts (0.49std)
5. Jungyun Oh SNUDA 2 383 pts (1.02 std)
6. Dongha Kim SNUDA 2 382 pts
We sincerely apologize to each EFL Best Speaker recipient, their societies, and to the community. We will make sure the correct awards will find its way to them during KCM meetings or otherwise and we hope that these individuals still receive compliments and recognition from the societies.
We will also address and further inquiries in this matter; please do reach out if any problems or questions arise.
Thank you

[Tab Director Introduction]
Introducing our amazing Tab Master!
Sung Hyun is nice. He is smart. He is funny. He can also count and add and subtract stuff without using his fingers and knows how to fix a software crash without crying. Thatās probably why we as a community have begged him to stay on as tab master since forever and for years to come. Sung Hyun has tabbed a total of five Sogang Rookie Tournaments, three KIDA Opens and two Korea Debate Opens and he tells me that this KNC will *really* be his last time tabbing. Big words, Sung Hyun, big words.
Aside from being your friendly polar bear and engineering hyung/obba who can tab, he has Co-CAed the recent nationals, broke at Asian BP as an adjudicator and was last yearās Northeast Asian best speaker. He probably has done a lot more but he was too lazy to tell me details and I was too lazy to dig in, so there you go. Heās done all that. And more. I think.
But really. A good tab master is defined by his professionalism: efficient with ballots and match-ups, open in communication with the organizing committee and adjudication core, and calm and cool in times of panic, chaos and frustration, which all good tournaments have their fair share of. As someone whoās worked with Sung Hyun when he first started in the debating scene (yes, he too was a bright-eyed young person sometime ago, oh how time fliesā¦) I can confidently say he possesses all the aforementioned qualities and more. Although I would strongly urge you to use a calculator and not make any mistakes on the ballot because I canāt really speak for his patience with idiots or the mathematically challenged. This KNC will be even more amazing with him on tab!

____________________________________________________________
Ye Bin Jeon, before anything else, is a highly decorated debate adjudicator that has been in the judging world for more than three years. Throughout these years, Ye Bin has been recognized as one of the best KIDA has to offer in debate judging, and has participated in 7 CAPs prior to this KNC. She is by far whom I consider the most capable and qualified to be Chief Adjudicator in the Nationals based on her experience and her credentials, in my humble opinion. Ye Bin is also well versed in numerous areas such as anthropology, law, human rights, philosophy, and so on.
But moreover, I also know from personal experience that it isnāt just individual capacity that makes a good leader and CA. Ye Bin has the personal character that makes her an amazing person and a great fit for a position of responsibility. I had my fair share of failures as being CAP when I let my hubris and ego get the better of me, caused unnecessary complications and created conflicts in processes that looking back hurt the ultimate purpose of being CA; the goal of creating an enjoyable festival for debaters. Tournaments are, before anything else, a celebration and gathering where various people come to share ideas and have fun. Not all people that are āgood debatersā or ārecognizable judgesā automatically become competent CAs. To be a good CA, one also needs to be a facilitator and listen to the various concerns at play; to have an open ear and an open mind to create an environment where all people feel welcome and comfortable. Ye Bin is that person. Because Ye Bin is, before anything else, a kind and open person. She concerns herself on the comfort of others, she cares about the opinions of people, and she really cares. She goes beyond herself to communicate with all those who raise concerns; nobody is irrelevant or unimportant in her work. My trust in our CA this KNC isnāt just coming from an abstract place; it comes from seeing for myself successful and not-so-successful past cases where I was also directly involved in. Ye Bin has the qualities that made previous great CAs great, and is absent of the traits that made some CAPs fail to give to the community what could have been better.
I have heard, directly and indirectly, that there were many obstacles and complications in this yearās KNC preparation that were less than ideal. For many (including myself), this would have been more than enough to frustrate and discourage a person from being able to do a good job in preparing and running such a large-scale project such as the KIDA nationals. But Ye Bin is not like many others, she is graceful yet strong enough to make it work. I have no doubt that this KNC will be a wonderful experience for all participants, and I know that a large part of that is due to the great work and sacrifices the people behind the event put into the process. And a large part of that will be because Ye Bin will do what is necessary on her part to ensure that everyone can have the best experience circumstances allow.
Ye Binās experience, Ye Binās capabilities, and most importantly Ye Binās character and strength makes her a wonderful person to be your CA in this yearās KNC. And if anything else, Ye Bin is also a extremely fun person to be next to (due to, though definitely not only because, of her amazing drinking abilities and sun-shine personality) and I hope that everyone can have the pleasure of getting to know her this KNC.

Yours truly,
Eugene & Da Young
Dear all,
Through an exchange of conversations, there were several things that were worth taking note of. First, societies expressed grievances that they would feel bad about announcing participation to their novices on the day of the tournament. Second, with a lack of measure to offer participation for novices other than pulling top tear teams off, the CAP felt that such heartfelt care for each society members is something we could recognize and make sacrifices to pull last minute changes.
After a long full day of trying to find venues and allocate time to make yet another judge quiz, the CAP is writing this post to confirm that we have successfully found a date and location to cater to societyās needs.
Although it is sad that societies could not respond to the past additional tests, we hope to assist their internal difficulties. We abide by our principles regarding judge quality and growth, therefore will proceed with conducting an additional test which all societies understood as valid an option in the emails and post.
Registrations would have to end after all judge test results are out, so the Convening team has also inputted effort to extend the registration to November 15th, 24:00.
So the schedule for the test is as follows:
Date: November 15th(Thursday), 2018
Location: Ewha Womans University, International Building, Room 702
Time: Quiz will begin at 6:35pm sharp and end at 7:00pm.
*You may take the quiz later than 6:35pm if you arrive late, but they will be taken away at 7:00pm.
The results of the last judge test will be announced around 8:00pm on Thursday.
Those who can participate in the last test are past examinees of any of the previous 3 judge tests that received a trainee status and hope to receive a panel status. Your quiz score will be added to your past OA score and if you meet the standards for panel, you will be bumped up to panel š
Society heads who hope to participate, please email the CAP via [email protected] with by tomorrow 12pm.
1) A Title (Society / Number of participants)
2) Information (Participantās Name / Email Address / Contact Number)
3) Additional Contact Number (Society Headās Katalk ID)
Lastly, there seems to be discrepancy between societies that wish for an additional test, so for better collective understanding, the CAP will reach out to the respective societies tomorrow.
Warm regards,
CAP.

Hello,
After the third judge test results were announced, several societies have asked for support regarding the judge standards. Most of these societies were lacking 1 to 2 panels, in the verge of cutting teams due to their lack of judges.
We, the CAP, feel that it is a problem when societies are eager to register to send a number of teams without consideration to how many qualified adjudicators they are able to send. We also think that it is unreasonable to demand the CAP for a compromise in judges for the sake of allowing more teams to participate in the tournament. We do not wish to condone a culture of compromising the judge pool for the sake of more debater teams, and we are not willing to set a precedence of doing so in this KNC.
With all that being said, the CAP would like to grant a favor for those who have respectively approached us for help by offering an additional opportunity for societies to meet their total judge slots in accordance to the N=1 rule.
In order to maintain fairness and quality judging while providing additional opportunities, the CAP will be providing a final judge quiz on the first day of the tournament. This quiz will be available to the judges that have received a trainee status on any of the past three judge tests.
If the judges receive a quiz score that adds up to a panel status with their previous OA score, they will be promoted to panel status (ex: If an examinee who had an OA average score of 3 and a quiz score of 1 newly receives a quiz score of 3, he/she will be considered a panel).
This also means that any judges that fail to pass the quiz will be counted as a trainee, which does not count as a part of ānā and may impact the participating debate teams. On that note, society heads, please make sure to encourage your judges to study for the quiz so that both your debaters and judges get to fully participate in this KNC.
The specifics of the quiz will be announced soon.
For those who hope to take the last quiz, please contact the CAP via [email protected] by November14th. Please address your emails by:

Name of Examinee, Contact Number (in the email)
