Dr Ancel Keys started his study into heart disease in 1958. His study was called the Seven Countries Study.
It was the start of the diet heart hypothesis, linking saturated fat consumption to increase in cholesterol to heart disease.
Consequently, this saw the rise in the popularity of low fat diets with increased carbohydrate consumption.
Keys’s work has been challenged: from the limited number of countries in the study (countries excluded because results didn’t fit his theory), to the increase in obesity.
Visceral Fat is a sure sign that your health isn’t good.
It is caused by Cortisol, which is the fight or flight hormone. So a fat stomach shows that you are suffering from stress and eating the wrong foods.
It is time to take action!
- Cut right back on the carbs
- Likewise, reduce alcohol substantially
- Start exercising: walk daily
- Get plenty of regular sleep
You will ten times better in just a few weeks.
Some 25% of adults in the USA (the UK will be the same) are either pre-diabetic or diabetic. Most will not know they have the disease.
It comes on very slowly, over years, and when allowed to develop it leads to life threatening complications.
To think it is disease that only affects obese people is wrong.
Symptoms to look out for:
- Constant tiredness
- Continual thirst
- Needing to p*e in the night
- Sharp tingling in the feet / hands
…among others.
Crucially, with effort and determination you can get yourself into remission by lifestyle changes.

This is a good book - Michael Morley’s Just One Thing.
Lots of good advice about what to eat, what not to eat and exercise. As well as mental wellbeing tips.
All advice is referenced, which is commendable.
Easy read as well.
Yes, recommended.
What springs to mind to you looking inside this fridge?
What I see is a fridge stacked full of processed food. Such foods are typically full of carbohydrates - the technical term meaning sugars.
We love these sort of foods because they are tasty, in fact, sugar is addictive.
But eaten to excess carbohydrate raises or blood sugar levels, leading to insulin resistance. You are then on the path to Type 2 Diabetes and if not tackled heart disease.
Make a start tackling this today.

So much preventable disease could be solved if people ate a bit better, and moved a bit more.
We're obsessed with talking about our country's abysmal health, yet ignore the most obvious cause.
The UK is plagued by obesity and inactivity - they are both brutal killers.
