Built in 1833, this provençal stone "mas" was originally a relay stop on the postal route. The route changed and now we're privileged to share this unique retreat situated at the end of a private road. This family home has been entirely remodeled using traditional methods to retain its historic character. Situated in a park-like setting with view on the forest and very few neighbors, it is perfect for an extended family, a gathering of friends or the perfect property for a long term stay to truly discover the delights of the region.
Mas is an Occitan word for a traditional farmhouse located in Provence and the Midi region. If we haven’t gushed enough already it’s truly unique property which is perfect for a long stay – and inducive to creative pursuits. Book a long stay and finish your novel/screenplay or bring your paints!
It’s a large property with ample space for guests to roam and find a niche to make their own. It is decorated with multi-generational family furniture that we hope you’ll enjoy and respect. Max. 8 people.
Children are welcome--and there is plenty of old-fashioned things to discover—but hands on parental supervision suggested.
The house is located in the Côtes du Rhône wine region ( Châteauneuf-du-Pape is 45 minutes away) and close to Avignon, Nimes, and Arles with many wonderful places to discover and foods (and wine!) to cosume!
(Complete details listed on the Airbnb profile: (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26155569 )
The house has three levels, with stairs leading up to the main level from both entrances as well as in the main living areas.
The GROUND LEVEL features:
• Parking (covered area for one car, with additional spaced to park)
• Outdoor dining room/salle d’ete
• Courtyard/yard with olive trees
• A cave with the washing machine (we use the bright sun to dry the clothes and do not have a dryer)
MAIN LEVEL
• Accessing from courtyard up a dozen stairs, we enter the KITCHEN which is equipped with a wide array of dishes and cooking implements as well as:
Oven with electric stove top
• Dishwasher
• Dining table
• An old-fashioned brick oven (NOT useable)
• The KITCHEN TERRACE has a café table as is a wonderful spot to watch the sun set.
• Turning left from the kitchen is the OFFICE/LIBRARY with the SECOND SITTING ROOM beyond which has a convertible sofa should someone need some extra sleeping space. The windows overlook the courtyard and open to let in nature (no screens!) OFFICE/LIBRARY has TV with DVD player.
• From the OFFICE/LIBRARY there’s a dressing area (watch your head on the lintel!) with closet space that leads past the main TOILET (sink & toilet) and leads to the MASTER BEDROOM
• MASTER BEDROOM boasts:
QUEEN BED (160 x 190) with bathing area which is a hot tub with a hand-held shower & an amazing view window + a sink/cupboard. The room boasts wood beams & a working fireplace. To me, it is the space most evocative of the time the house was built.
• We believe the rooms in this “wing” comprised the original structure of the postal relay, which was later expanded.
• Three stairs lead from kitchen to the big SITTING ROOM which has a working fireplace and a dining room table that seats 6+ people. There’s a chess board and some games to play.
• The stairway leads to the UPPER LEVEL which has been recently renovates with more pictures coming soon. There are 3 sleeping BEDROOMS and 2 complete BATHROOMS on this level.
o MEZZANINE – two twin beds
o BEDROOM #1 – Queen bed with armoire
o BEDROOM #2 – Queen bed (photos coming soon)
o BATHROOM #2 – photos coming soon – toilet, standing shower & sink
o BATHROOM #3 – toilet, bathtub with hand held shower, sink (this has a sloping ceiling so better for the shorter people!)
