Studies show that repeated complaining is bad for your health. It rewires (and even damages) your brain, raises cortisol levels and can impact blood pressure and blood sugar. Socially, it causes people to distance themselves from you, and rightly so, because neuronal mirroring exists. Complaining doesn’t solve anything… Try replacing complaining with solution oriented actions and gratitude to see how impactful positivity can be. 💜

The hedonic treadmill is a metaphor for the tendency humans have to pursue one pleasure after another. External happiness boosts are like the sugar high of emotions… we get a blast of it and, because of hedonic adaptation, it dissipates and we seek the next hit. How do we get off of the treadmill? Practice presence and mindfulness. Not only does this allow us to be fully in the moment without being tied to thoughts of things past or future, but also it evens out our levels of contentment for greater, more sustainable equanimity. 💜

KINDNESS BEGETS KINDNESS…
There was a study done where volunteers were given 5 minutes to play with a pen full of puppies. They were told they would receive $50 for their time.

At the end of the five minutes, the researchers told volunteers they could take the $50 OR they could forego it in order to give someone else the opportunity to play with the puppies. They were told the person before them didn’t take the $50 and that’s why they got puppy playtime… and that if they opted to take the money the next person wouldn’t know, they would simply be thanked for their time and sent home.

96% of the volunteers declined the money so others could have the joy of sweet puppy breath and b***y wiggles…

Kindness begets kindness. A gentle nudge creates a ripple effect, and we never know how far reaching that ripple may be. Start the ripple.

T R U T H
In the busyness of life, creating balance is a safeguard against feelings of overwhelm. A few ideas to help create more balance…
1. Identify your non-negotiable needs and honor them
2. Acknowledge (and accept) that you can’t do everything all the time; set realistic goals.
3. Manage yourself, not your time… “time management” is a misnomer.
4. Just.say.no. Not only does saying no help restore balance but also it gives your YES more power!
5. Practice self-care… it’s not selfish, it’s self-preserving. 💜

It is impossible to silence your mind. No one has a mind without thoughts. Meditation illustrates that a quiet mind evolves when you let go of judgment and embrace every emotion and thought. If you try to fight the thoughts and feelings, you resist what is inevitable, and end up amplifying them. Being non-judgmental is the key to stillness. Accept whatever thoughts you have and allow inner peace to come more naturally.

The perfect conditions were created within the Biosphere 2. Purified air and water, rich soil, filtered light all supported the growth of the flora and fauna in the optimal environment. Scientists were perplexed when trees started falling once they reached a certain height. They ultimately concluded that the trees were suffering from a lack of adversity. There was no wind or torrential rain in the comfort of the biosphere, and as a result the roots were not strengthened as they would otherwise have been. The trees were less resilient and their growth was negatively impacted.

We, too, grow stronger and more resilient by withstanding the winds of adversity. We can’t stop life’s storms from coming and going but we can strengthen our roots and grow through our challenges.
