LET'S FACE IT: Society has not made it easy for tall (5'9"+) and curvy (size 6+) women to dress themselves. Everything is made for shorter legs, arms, and torsos. I spent my teens and early twenties giving in to the misshapen clothing that made me look either frumpy, lumpy, or chunky. The worst part? I thought I didn't have another option. I gave in to the clothing and thought I would just have to deal with it - by either squeezing into, or drowning in, clothes that simply weren't designed for my body type, shape or length.
Two years ago, I discovered a few (UK-Based) stores that had small lines explicitly for tall women, and it changed my world. Dresses, pants, shirts, jackets, tights that were long enough and shoes that were big enough - to correctly and comfortably host my long and curvy limbs. What an empowering moment!
The downside? Most of these brands just didn’t speak to my personal style. I wanted clothes that I could use in any combination (in any season), that I could layer and dress up or down. I had too many “statement” pieces, and not enough basic, everyday pieces. Getting dressed in the morning shouldn’t be distressing. But I’m sure my fellow tall sisters can agree that it often is.
I've spent too much time searching for more stores like the few gems I found in London. It's been incredibly difficult. There isn't much out there in the form of tall girl stores, or blogs, or designers. So I've set out to make it a more comfortable world for us tall and curvy women to live in by making the clothes I can’t find in the stores.
