International TAs at UCSB
Community of International TAs at UCSB, where we learn about teaching, share experiences, gain support and confidence, and make good friends.
Hi there,
We are looking for a professional, respectful and responsible roommate to take the third bedroom in our apartment. We are two professionals, male and female, in our 30s, in search for a friend, not only someone to share the rent with. We call our place home and want you to feel comfortable to do the same. This is a drama and tension free environment, and we want to keep the status quo.
We'd prefer someone in their late 20s/ early 30s with a full-time (not from home) job. We are okay with the roomie having the boy/girlfriend over sometimes as long as it's not a regular thing. Sometimes, we work from home, thus our place should be silent, clean and neat.
We are not cleaning freaks, but the basic "clean after yourself" policy must rule.
The rent includes all utilities and it can be lower than that sometimes. It is due on the 1st of the month.
Also, a 30-day move-out notice and security deposit ($700) are mandatory.
The room has a walking-in closet and no furniture. The bathroom will be shared with the male roommate.
Laundry room in the building and parking within the building complex.
No pets allowed.
One person only.
NO SMOKE - AT ALL!
The apartment is in a great location close to banks, supermarket, bars and restaurants. Just look it up!
Move in on October 1st.

Our meeting to discuss possible changes in the international TAs handbook will be at room 4572 at the library. Join us!!
Next Fall, we will officially launch the UCSB Teaching Assistant Association. The goal is to create a network for ITAs through which we can benefit from each other's experiences, gain support, and potentially bring our issues to the attention of the campus - and so enhance and improve the experience of being a Gaucho, not only for ITAs but also undergraduate international students. In addition, we want to bring CLAS, OISS, CAPS, GRADUATE DIVISION, and INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT together to offer specific training to ITAs on both how to navigate the experience of being an international graduate student and Teaching Assistant and better support international undergraduate students, who are a great portion of UCSB students.
We also have one main task this Summer: to update the UCSB International Teaching Assistant.
Thus, I would like you to join us and help to write the new handbook, one made by ITAs to new ITAs.
We will meet on July 13 at 5pm at the library to get to know each other and brainstorm some ideas together.
Please join us and bring other ITAs. Let`s help each other and make friends.

UAW 2865 is hiring a temporary database analyst to work between 100-140 hours (depending on need), starting as soon as possible, and finishing no later than September, 2016.
Working with the UAW 2865 Joint Council database working group, the analyst will identify key data needs related to UAW 2865’s primary areas of work such as organizing, representation, and bargaining. The analyst will then research different options to meet those needs, and the costs and benefits of each, and finally present software proposals to the database working group, the Joint Council, and/or other leadership bodies of UAW 2865.
The details of the position can be found below and our website. If interested, apply quickly, as we are looking for the database analyst to begin working as soon as possible.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the database working group, the database analyst will be asked to perform some or all of the following duties:
Meet with UAW 2865 leaders and staff to discuss current use of database, desired functionalities, and data-related concerns
Contact other labor unions to find out what data technologies and practices they use, and their assessment of costs and benefits
Work with database vendor(s) to develop detailed software proposals based on the Local’s identified needs and capacities
Help database committee develop broader proposal(s) for implementation of database and integration of data into the union’s ongoing work
Undertake related tasks that arise in the project, in coordination with the database working group
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience with union or community organizing; database design; and the development or customization of databases for organizing. Experience and familiarity with UAW 2865 organizing is a plus. This position does not require proficiency with SQL or other database programming languages.
Compensation
The database analyst will be paid based on hours worked at the contractual wage for Graduate Student Instructors, $28.35/hour. The total compensation will vary, depending on hours worked, between $2835 and $3969.
Location
The database analyst will not be bound to any specific location.
