Why haven't we cured arthritis? 25/05/2021

Love this short video about arthritis, about how & why it can be so difficult to treat 😊

Why haven't we cured arthritis? The bad backs, elbow pain, and creaky knees so common in older people often aren't just "old age." In fact, the source of this stiffness plagues many young people as well. The culprit is arthritis: a condition that affects over 90 million people in the U.S. alone. What makes arthritis so pervasive, ...

Cloudy sunlight & shadows on my commute home from Hawes on Friday, looking into Mallerstang. Still beautiful although the fells already look different to early summer, once the first cut has gone & the buttercups fade...

Gorgeous sky & view into Mallerstang this evening on my drive home, I've waited a long time this year to see these views again!

A very different view on my commute this morning into Mallerstang via the Tommy Road - gave me the chance to listen to skylarks, meadow pipits, curlew, lapwing & see a couple of snipe sitting on the fence posts which made me smile! I've really missed commuting along here, watching winter turn into spring. So glad to be back!

The 2 sides of our house - the sunny 'looks finished' side & the 'err yeah you've still a lot to do' side. Reality 😳

Because a lot of us are finding where we live a fortunate thing during lockdown; where people in high rise flats or homes without outside space might think we don't know how lucky we are just now. We do appreciate it, truly we do. The other side to living out here is that normally we have 30min drive to get anywhere including healthcare, our children can't walk to see friends, logistics is far more complex for everything than when you live in a town.

Swings & roundabouts. Rough & smooth. Nothing's ever quite as you think it is. Grass is not greener. Choices you make.

How it all happened!

I have been an Orthopaedic Massage practitioner for over 14 years and my work with patients with complex chronic musculoskeletal conditions (and pain) made me very curious - why was pain so different for everyone? How was it that individuals with the same diagnosis could have such different experiences of pain?

I got curious and I got learning - about pain science, neuroscience, pain and stress biology, did some research, went on courses ( amongst others - with the NeuroOrthopaedic Institute who are a great resource for anyone wanting to know about pain), and decided I had to start spreading the word. It’s no exaggeration to say that this stuff changes people’s lives and I want to be part of the Pain Revolution which is slowly spreading through the world!

Its always been my strength to make a difficult subject easily understandable to my patients so I’ve applied the same principles to Pain Education and arrived at LOGiC Pain Education. The Workshops take a few formats - from one day courses to 2 hour seminars with a practical element. The content can be tailored to individual’s needs - from non-specific pain education to ‘Back Pain & Back Care’, ‘Lower Body Injuries’ and more! Ask and I will adapt it to you! I can also deliver pain education on a one-to-one basis if necessary.

I’m passionate about my work as an Orthopaedic Massage Practitioner, and I’m passionate about Pain Education - it really is the missing link in helping people manage pain better and stay active throughout their life.
