DGL is something I give to a lot of clients, but it will only work if you are also working on what is causing the stress in the first place.

So many people look to supplements to be the magic pill but it would be wrong for me to be frustrated as a clinician at how western medicine throws so many medicines at people and then go and prescribe copious amounts of supplements my end.

Build tolerance and remove them as much as possbile.

That is the goal.

This is a red flag when a client can't swallow pills.

It's a sign of poor vagal function and will be impacting gut health, brain health and hormones amongst other things.

Is your metabolism slow?

This is a checklist that could say it MAY be slow.

How is your nutrition?
How is your sleep?

How is your breathing?
How is your hydration?
How is your training?

All of these things will determine if your metabolism is actually slow, and most of the time it isn't, there's something else going on stalling results.

One of the most common female hormone conditions I deal with in my clinic is and the frustrations I have seen many clients have is that they were told to just go on the pill.

The problem is that it is a condition caused by insulin resistance and by working on that then you will start to get ahead.

Eat higher protein, spread throughout the day
Eat BEFORE you start to feel tired
Eat Breakfast
Move throughout the day

all will massively benefit from good, heavy weight training

And no, you won't accidentally put on a load of muscle, it doesn't happen overnight BUT the health benefits will be very quick if you push yourself out of your comfort zone.

The clients in my clinic may be coming for functional medicine, looking at hormones, nutrition and lifestyle medicine but we also have the option to bolt on training packages to follow along with if they don't have access to a personal trainer.

Navigating the journey of perimenopause requires much more than simply watching out for the usual symptoms. One of the crucial elements for successful hormone function I’ve noticed in clients, is their adrenal function.

The fascinating thing is that 10-30% of our s*x hormones derive from our adrenals, especially as our ovaries decelerate their production during perimenopause. This highlights the importance of healthy adrenal function, not only for hormone balance but also for overall wellbeing.

This, too, is intertwined with several other components – stress management, toxin exposure, healthy sleep patterns, nutrition, exercise, as well as genetics. It's easy to say 'reduce stress', but I acknowledge how tough it is to 'just not be stressed'.
