Congratulations to Chloe Halliwell, who recently won South East Queensland Apprentice of the Year at the Skills for Queensland State Training Awards. Chloe was trained by Painters Institute trainer Paul Jones from Gimbal Training host employer Finesse Painting, and her employer Ed Kea from OSMAC Apprenticeships. For a mature age painting apprentice to win this award is an outstanding achievement, and a credit to her commitment to the trade. 🍾
We're putting the 'decorating' back into 'painting and decorating' training. Even experienced painters who do RPL assessment with us are given the opportunity to do gap training and learn new skills to grow their business.

It's NAIDOC week, and to celebrate we're featuring the first Aboriginal-owned and operated paint company in Australia. Jiga Jiga Paint was created by Bevan Mailman and Tom Hutcheson (former graduate of The Painters Institute), who have extensive combined experience in commercial painting and community economic development. Both men had a desire to develop a paint brand and range of colours that celebrated First Nations ancient cultures and traditions and created employment and business opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.

The National Institute of Painting and Decorating is proud to launch a new course in Intumescent Coatings, in collaboration with Security International and Wall and Ceiling Institute. This new course has taken 6 months to develop and will provide training and nationally recognised qualifications for painters applying the ground-breaking new Fire Coat range of BAL-40 rated coatings. With climate change continuing to increase the risk of bushfires around the world, this training will prepare the painting industry to play their part in protecting buildings in bush-fire prone areas in Australia and the United States.

A new fire-retardant paint, formulated by engineers at UNSW Sydney, has become the first to pass a stringent Australian standard test that simulates a bushfire attack.
The paint achieved the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) 40 standard which assesses the bushfire resistance of buildings and construction materials.

Today is World Corrosion Awareness Day, and to commemorate this day we're launching our new MSM30216 Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating course.
This course has taken 18 months to develop, and uses some of the most sophisticated e-learning technology to bring high quality training to any industrial blasting and coating work-site.
Now, employers can offer in-house traineeships, and high quality training in the treatment and prevention of corrosion without having to send employees to campuses located hundreds of kilometres away.
Using animation, video and interactive scenarios and projects we are bringing the subject of corrosion alive, to help trades workers understand the technical principles behind corrosion mitigation, surface preparation and industrial protective coatings. No more boring lecturers, no more classrooms, no more pens, paperwork or death by Powerpoint presentations. Just really awesome training for the 21st century, available anywhere, anytime.
Get an education, not just a certificate.

Warm tones are back and grey is out for 2024!' says Lina Galvao co-founder of Curated Nest. 'This has been a gradual transition over past few years. We're seeing lots of "comforting" warm neutrals (the color of the year for 4 major paint companies are warm neutrals) take the design world by storm. Warmer and darker woods, richer brown tones, warm greens continue, soft shades of pink and yellow (sophisticated pastels).'
These are the key paint trends for 2024, according to designers Redefine the way you use paint and color at home and explore the very latest paint trends for 2024
All trades, including painting, are increasingly becoming more and more specialised, with painting companies focusing on technical niche markets. For example, many painting companies only ever do new construction, while others focus on industrial coatings or building maintenance. Very few ever do heritage restoration. This trend can be seen across the construction industry, to the point where some trades have decided to adapt training to reflect the increasing specialisations.
Reimagining Training for Painters and Decorators What would the painting qualification look like if we brought it into the 21st century? How the trade is taught is very different to the reality of how people work in the industry
Our online campus will be open all through the festive season, because we know it's the only time many painters have to learn. Whether you're partying, spending time with family, or using the down time to brush up on your skills, have a safe and happy festive season!
