The Paleo Express is a steam train that operates on the Chichibu Railway, cutting across Saitama’s northern part. If you haven’t noticed the fascination Japan has for fantastic/extinct creatures, this particular steam train is another example in favour of it. It is said that the train got its name from a dinosaur that used to inhabit the area millions of years ago.
The Paleo Express makes one return journey per day, offering breath-taking views of Saitama’s rice paddies, the Arakawa River and the Chichibu mountain. It runs only on weekends and public holidays, but there are a few times when it runs during the week, during summer vacation and in autumn.

Did you know that Enoshima Island was created by the Benten goddess before defeating a five headed dragon that had been terrorizing the area? That and much more is hidden on the tiny island, located just a short train journey away from the well-known Kamakura. From shrines built in honour of the goddess of wealth, to a giant “candle” that serves as a light-house, Enoshima has enough to spark your interest. The island is the perfect place for sun-lovers and surfers, its beaches stretching all the way to Chigasaki and Kamakura. Visitors to Enoshima cannot miss the famous Enospa, a resort and day spa built along the shore. On days with clear skies, even Mount Fuji reveals itself.
