How lovely to be reminded of this review from 6 years ago!
Just when - guess what? - it's snowing here... just the weather poor Jack has to cope with when he becomes stranded on the tops above Middleham.
Posted 6 years ago: 'The following was very kindly posted on the Ricardian group Richard III Blanc Sanglier yesterday by Julie Stafford. Many thanks to Julie for her lovely words 😃
"Yesterday, I finally had an opportunity to read Alex Marchant’s ‘The Beast of Middleham Moor.’ Forgive me if I gush, but what a wonderful read! Alex is one of those rare authors who can transport you to another time and place, and make you feel as if *you* are the one experiencing events as they unfold.
When Jack, the narrator, recalls being bullied, you feel the hurt. When he is trudging uphill through the snow, you feel the icy air entering your lungs and the effort it is taking to reach the summit of a hill, half-frozen. You also feel the relief when a voice calls out to Jack just as he is about to fall into the sleep from which he may never wake. The voice is commanding, but not intimidating, and it is tinged with both amusement and concern. Before you know it, you are in the presence of Richard III, King of England and France, and Lord of Ireland.
There are rich colours and fabrics, wine and a fire to warm you, and just when you have gotten comfortable…well, I can’t really give the rest away, can I? 😉 "
And don't forget the story is still available - in 'Grant Me the Carving of My Name', and still raising funds for SAUK

[edit: I'm trying again to post a memory, which, when I attempted it earlier, just came up as a (now-defunct) link to Virgin Giving. The memory was for the lovely review from Julie, which I hope now appears below: please don't click on the Virgin link as it won't take you anywhere! Apologies for Facebook yet again doing something entirely different from what was asked! :) ]
[Edit again...adding in the lovely review above!]
Grant Me the Carving of My Name: An anthology of short fiction inspired by King Richard III A boyhood mishap in York. A ghostly walking tour of Leicester. A deadly snowstorm on the moors above Middleham. Alien abduction in the very heart of the city of London. Loss of a beloved brother, death of an untrue cousin. Just some of the events recounted in these tales by authors inspired by Ki...
What a fabulous review of 'Time out of Time' I've just discovered on Good Reads! And mentioning it alongside Susan Cooper, Alan Garner and Diana Wynne Jones!
Thank you so much, Narrelle - I'm so pleased you enjoyed it 😀
"Engaging, thoughtful, fun and reminiscent of the classics. Highly recommended."
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Narrelle's review of Time out of Time 5/5: Already a fan of Alex Marchant's Order of the White Boar series, I was keen to give this standalone tale a shot - and was not disappointed! Time Out of Time, written in 2021, is set in 1976 (as its main timeline before it goes exploring through the ages) - and it strikes the perfect balance of....
An essential date in the calendar!
Hope to see you there this year 😀🐗👑

Day 6 🎄
Do you prefer winter or summer?
Summer every time!
I may write lots of snowy winter scenes but my heart is in spring/summer - I hate the cold!
The hot summer of 'Time out of Time' was more pleasant to write, despite the climate issues
Time out of Time Welcome to the golden summer of 1976. Year of the Heatwave, year of the Drought. Normally sun-starved and grey, England is plagued by endless blue skies – no rain for months, the country scorched and parched, standpipes in the street. But 12-year-old Allie has other worries. When her family moves....
🎁Your next gift in the HWF Jolabokaflod is a short story from Samantha Wilcoxson. 📚Farewell to Anne features Richard III and is a companion story to her book, Plantagenet Princess Tudor Queen. Read it for FREE today!🎄

December is a busy old time for me...
So busy that I'm only now catching up with the first few days of The Historical Writers Forum Jolabokaflod (or Icelandic book flood/hug - it's easier to type that...)
Hopefully the freebies are still available ... I'll be sharing the posts as and when I can.
My own freebie will be on Saturday 9th (and Sunday 10th), when the ebook of 'The Order of the White Boar' will be FREE to download from Amazon. https://mybook.to/WhiteBoar
If you haven't read it - or want to encourage family or friends to - this is the chance to grab it! Please share this post to all and sundry to let them know!
I'm also offering signed paperbacks of all my books at bargain prices in the run-up to Christmas - including the new 2-in-1 'King in Waiting'. Just DM me if you're interested 😀👑🎄🎁

Day 5 🎄
Does your book feature Christmas celebrations?
Well, both 'The Order of the White Boar' and 'The King's Man' certainly do - and I've blogged about it here:
https://alexmarchantblog.wordpress.com/2019/12/24/christmases-with-richard-plantagenet-1482-1485/
My work-in-progress features Christmas and Hogmanay rather more heavily, but that's perhaps for next year.
Meanwhile, Christmas with King Richard III can be enjoyed in the 2-in-1 edition of 'The Order of the White Boar', available via all good bookshops, or direct from myself (perhaps along with a paperback of the sequel, the 2-in-1 edition of 'King in Waiting'). Ideal Christmas pressies both - DM me for details!
And, in case you've not yet read 'The Order of the White Boar', or would like to introduce friends or family to it, the ebook of Book 1 will be FREE to download from Amazon all this weekend.

Day 4 - which of my books would make excellent Xmas presents?
All of them, of course!
But mostly 'The Order of the White Boar' because of its snowy winter scenes & Xmas at Edward IV's court☃️❄️..& because the ebook will be FREE to download this weekend...

But Books 1 & 2 are a bargain together at £3.99/$4.99, or £12.99/$15.99 in pbk
And new 2-in-1 King in Waiting too!
Why not bag any of these bargains for ? http://mybook.to/WhiteBoarBooks1-2 http://mybook.to/KinginWaiting3-4
