Sookie Fluffibunnikins

On August 20, 2023 our crazy, wonderful, demanding little diva / heart dog crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Sookie was part of our lives for 12 years, and the loss is beyond devastating, but we are grateful to have had her as part of our family.

Sookie loved going to Corgi meetups until she decided other dogs just weren’t her thing. She spent three years as a Pet-Assisted Therapy dog and Canine Ambassador at the San Diego Humane Society, bringing joy to countless lives while visiting schools, convalescent centers, juvenile hall, and dozens of other locations. She was even AKC certified as a Therapy Dog, even though her instructor always called her the class clown.

Our furkid spent more nights in hotels and went on road trips to more states than most humans. She was a So Cal dog through and through but loved to explore new places. Sookie was the absolute best co-pilot/navigator and was a hit with hotel staff wherever we went.

We called her a furry speedbump when we went on walks because she would sit in front of random strangers and not move until they petted her. When she got to the point where walks took too much out of her, she loved wheeling around in her “princess carriage,” greeting everyone with a smile and demanding attention.

She ate at hundreds of restaurants, tried surfing, went jet skiing, and loved lounging in our pontoon boat watching the wildlife. And whenever a package was delivered, or bags were brought into the house, she had to be the one to open them. Every birthday or Christmas present was hers – even if it wasn’t intended to be. Her skills at unwrapping gifts were unparalleled!

Sookie loved her family with all her little heart. All you had to do was say auntie, uncle, or sister, and she would perk up, even as her energy level decreased.

In her final days, she still managed to smile and even played a little. She even managed to barooo at breakfast and dinner, and took her insulin shots and various medications like a champ. But we knew - and she knew - that she was ready to frap free over the Rainbow Bridge. We know she’ll be greeted by her Corgi friends who’ve made their way over the Rainbow Bridge, and by her furbrothers and fursister Osa, Cammy, and Joe.

Our hearts are heavy and the hole she left in them will take a long time to heal.

Hi furiends, just checking in to give you an update. Doing well on current meds and new food. Mom and dad take me out on daily walks around the lake. Thank you all for the love and support. ❤️

Hi everypawdy! Just checking in to let you know I’m doing fine and getting use to my medications. Mom and dad take me out for a short walk and then ride around the lake most days. Weather is beautiful in Southern California today. Have a pawsome weekend! ❤️

Hello my furiends! I have an update on my health. So the emergency vet said I have Cushing's and diabetes, and mom's been chasing me down two times a day to inject me with insulin. Well, just got back from my real doctor and she thinks it's diabetes but not Cushing's! She said the emergency vet didn't have my records so didn't know I normally have high liver values, but he was right that I have diabetes.

I'm feeling great and mom says I'm really good and patient when she gives me my shots. We go back next Friday for more tests, but for now we are continuing twice-a-day injections, changing up my food, and just monitoring things.

Please send pawsitive thoughts my way. I had to go to emergency on Thursday and again on Saturday. Lots of tests and the vet thinks it’s Cushings disease. Going back for further tests on Friday with my personal vet but feeling better. Love you all. ❤️

Celebrated an early Christmas with my human family and then went on a walk around our lake. The weather is beautiful here in SoCal. Hope everypawdy has a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

Hi Furiends. Today is my actual birthday and I’ve reached the age of 11! As you can see my auntie spoils me. I’m having a really good day with the AC on. Hope you’re staying cool as it’s really hot out. 🥰

Guess what furiends! My Auntie Karen sent me a box of presents for my 11th birthday and she made my mom and dad let me open them up a few days early! I got a new foxy, an owl friend, and an egg!!! I love them all!
