Passing along some quick tips for tree care during this crazy drought we are in:
TREE CARE
I wish we had new information to share, but its still hot, we're still in a drought. Here are a few pointers on getting your trees the water they need to survive.
-Check with your city or local water company for possible restrictions on watering methods and frequency. If you can, avoid watering during the hottest part of the day — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
-Don’t apply high-salt, quick-release fertilizers or dig under the canopy of a tree during a severe drought. It’s also not a good idea to prune live branches off young trees. They may need these branches once the rains return.
-During this extreme drought, mature trees need to be watered about once a week, while younger, newly-planted trees need to be watered about three times a week.
-In general, apply a layer of mulch no more than two to three inches deep. The entire area under the canopy could be mulched, but mulching out several feet around the base of the tree, being sure not to let the mulch touch the base of the trunk, will help.Mulch: In general, apply a layer of mulch no more than two to three inches deep. The entire area under the canopy could be mulched, but mulching out several feet around the base of the tree, being sure not to let the mulch touch the base of the trunk, will help.
Consider Deep Treatment for Your Trees: Deep root fertilization is a specialized type of fertilizer application method used to help restore trees that are struggling or showing signs of decline. This treatment uses high-pressure professional equipment to inject a blend of nutrients and organic matter into the soil around your trees' roots. The water goes straight into the soil and into your trees roots where it's needed most. ~UrbanTreeCo.
