Madang Child health Specialist urge caregivers to bring children for immunisation

Published Post Courier -May 11, 2024

Madang provincial Child health specialist Dr Jimmy Aipit is urging parents and caregivers to bring children for immunisation at the health facilities.

Dr Aipit said tuberculosis (TB) is increasing and is the third cause of admission of children in the province while hepatitis is also becoming common, and these are vaccine preventable disease that are on the rise.

He made these statement during a radio awareness program to mark the World Immunisation Week last week.

"TB is increasing and is the main cause of admission at the medical ward and is the third cause of admission for children but we have a vaccine to prevent TB," Dr Aipit said.

"Two vaccines are given at birth; BCG to protect the child from TB and Hepatitis B vaccine to protect from hepatitis which is a sick that affects the liver and we see that hepatitis is becoming common because many have not received this vaccine when they were little," Dr Aipit said.

Dr Aipit said it is very important for pregnant women to give birth at health facilities supervised by health workers.

"When a pregnant woman gives birth these are two vaccines (BCG and Hepatitis) that we give and its important pregnant woman must give birth at facility," Dr Aipit said.

Director Public Health Dr Martin Daimen said immunisation has protected and saved many lives over the years and urge care givers to get their children vaccinated.

Dr Daimen said immunisation is a priority program for the government to protect children and encourage all stakeholders to work together to ensure children are vaccinated and protected.

Introduction to Digital Healthcare Management Systems
The healthcare landscape is undergoing a significant transformation driven by the integration of digital technologies. At the forefront of this change are Digital Healthcare Management Systems (DHMS), which leverage information technology to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient outcomes, and optimize resource allocation.

Defining DHMS:

In essence, DHMS are a complex ecosystem of interconnected technologies and tools that streamline and empower healthcare management. They encompass a broad range of components, including:

Electronic Medical Records (EMRs):These digital repositories store a patient's complete medical history, including diagnoses, medications, allergies, immunizations, and laboratory results. EMRs improve accessibility, enhance care coordination, and facilitate data-driven decision-making.

Telemedicine:This technology enables remote consultations between patients and healthcare providers through video conferencing, phone calls, or secure messaging platforms. Telemedicine expands access to care, particularly in underserved areas, and promotes efficient consultations for routine checkups or chronic disease management.

Wearable Devices and Medical Apps:These smart devices and software applications track various health parameters, such as heart rate, blood pressure, sleep patterns, and activity levels. They empower patients to actively participate in their health management and provide valuable data for personalized care plans.

Healthcare Data Analytics:By analyzing vast amounts of medical data, DHMS generate insights that improve patient care, predict health risks, and optimize resource allocation. This data-driven approach leads to a more proactive and preventive healthcare system.

Benefits of DHMS:

The implementation of DHMS offers a multitude of benefits for various stakeholders within the healthcare ecosystem:

For Patients:

Improved access to care: Telemedicine and remote monitoring solutions overcome geographical barriers and provide timely consultations, especially for patients in rural areas or with limited mobility.
Enhanced patient engagement: DHMS empower patients to actively participate in their health management through wearable devices, health apps, and personalized care plans. This fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility for their well-being.
Personalized medicine: Data collected through various DHMS components can be used to tailor treatment plans and preventive measures to individual patient needs and genetic predispositions.
For Healthcare Providers:

Increased efficiency and productivity: EMRs streamline administrative tasks, automate scheduling and reminders, and facilitate seamless information sharing within healthcare teams, leading to saved time and improved workflow.
Data-driven decision-making: Analytics derived from healthcare data provide valuable insights to diagnose diseases, predict patient outcomes, and personalize treatment plans, ultimately leading to improved patient care.
Enhanced collaboration and communication: Secure messaging platforms and telemedicine tools enable real-time communication between healthcare professionals, regardless of location, fostering collaboration and improved care coordination.
For Public Health Systems:

Reduced healthcare costs: Efficient resource allocation based on data analytics and proactive disease prevention through early intervention can significantly reduce healthcare expenditures.
Improved population health outcomes: DHMS enable large-scale data collection and analysis, allowing public health officials to identify disease trends, target interventions, and implement preventive measures effectively.
Disease surveillance and outbreak management: Real-time data from wearable devices and health apps can be used to track disease outbreaks, identify high-risk individuals, and implement rapid response measures.
By harnessing the power of technology, DHMS offer a promising path towards a more efficient, accessible, and patient-centered healthcare system. However, it is crucial to address challenges such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and equitable access to ensure that the benefits of DHMS reach all communities.

This is just a brief introduction to DHMS. Each of the mentioned components deserves further exploration to fully understand their functionalities and implications for the future of healthcare. Remember, DHMS is not a static concept but rather a continuously evolving ecosystem that promises to revolutionize healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes for all.
