Paul is MANDs secretary/historian since 2023. Paul has been a RD for 16 years and is originally from Vermont! Paul and his family have lived in Maine since 2009 and he currently works at Maine Medical Center. Paul’s interest include running, biking, cooking, and doing things with his kids.

In our last post you met our President Laurie, we would now like to introduce our President Elect, Jane Sylvester!
Jane is a RD who specializes in bariatric surgery and has her own private practice. She is currently working on her DCN and plans to complete this by Summer of 2025. Jane resides in Bridgeton and enjoys skiing (downhill and cross country), kayaking, and running.

With over a hundred attendees, four presentations, and two research and practice brief sessions, it was an exciting and enjoyable day!

Nutrition and Dietetics students: Are you interested in attending a food event with networking and pizza taste-testing!?
The Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (MAND) is holding a special Student Foodies Forum for nutrition and dietetics students and professionals from Maine. All MAND members are invited to attend.
The “Foodie” portion of this free event will be a pizza comparison. We will have cheese pizza from local establishments for blinded sensory evaluation, to determine the best cheese pizza in the area! A gluten-free option will be available. Veggies and fruits will round out the meal.

The Future Dietetic Professional Scholarship is open for applications!
The Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is pleased to offer two $500 scholarships yearly to MAND student members planning a career as nutrition and dietetics professionals. The award is for use for the next semester. Information about this scholarship and other resources for students can be found on the MAND website:

If you are a speaker with an interesting topic to share with current and future nutrition and dietetics professionals, please consider submitting a speaker application. Ideal topics would be 50 minutes of presentation time with 10 minutes for questions.
NEW FOR 2024! 5-MINUTE RAPID ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
The MAND 2024 Annual Conference will include 5-minute Rapid Oral Presentations. We encourage all to apply! Instructions can be found on the submission site. The submission deadline is December 6th, 2023.

Info for MAND members: Proposed Changes to the HOD Delegate at Large Structure
During the annual review of the House of Delegates (HOD) manual, the House Leadership Team (HLT) identified areas of improvement on how the HOD functions related to composition. To create consistency in term length as well as ensure representation of constituency groups, the HLT recommends changing the Delegates at Large composition.
