I was studying architecture in university when I first started photography, and I’ve never stopped taking photographs since. I started with a film camera, taking photographs of buildings and landscapes in Kuala Lumpur and on my travels around Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, and, of course, Indonesia). On one of these trips I visited an island in Malaysia, Redang, where I t
ried snorkeling and scuba diving for the first time and fell in love with the underwater world. After my architecture degree, I wanted to do something different with my life, and instead focused on scuba diving. With professional courses and divemaster qualifications, I worked on Perhentian Island in Malaysia for a while. Realising I wanted to share my passion for diving with others, I qualified as an instructor and worked as a diving professional for another three years. The first time I tried underwater photography was two years after I started scuba diving, which wasn’t easy at first as everything from lighting to composition was so different. My journey in underwater photography was interrupted when I decided to move back to my home country, Indonesia. I spent some time at Pulau Weh in Sumatra, but realised it wasn’t for me and ended up in Bali, where I started to get more serious about underwater photography. Equipped with my small compact camera, a Canon G10, I snapped photos of everything from little creatures hidden in the seabed to divers underwater, as memories. After two years in Bali I moved again, this time to Wakatobi Resort, nestled on an island on the southeast tip of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Because of the amazing reef here at Wakatobi I can never stop taking photos underwater—everyday there is something new to discover underwater with my camera. I have a passion for photography because no two photos are ever exactly the same. Everything is always changing, and a photograph captures one moment and freezes it in time. I also love photography because there are always new tricks to learn, and I find myself constantly challenged. Although I love all kinds of photography, including photography on land, I especially love underwater macro photography and snapping photos of people. Thanks for visiting my online photography portfolio, and I hope that through these photos you will catch a glimpse of my passion for photography and the beauty all around us.
