Jonathan Idarraga, Onalaska High School, won the Nancy Hoefs Memorial award for Outstanding first Year Teacher! His nominators said he stands out as both eager and self-reflective. He learns from others, is reflectful of instructional practices and responsive to feedback. Congratulations, Jonathan!

Ally Langer, currently in her first full year at Prescott High school, won the Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year Award! Nominated by her student teaching supervisor and her cooperating teacher, Ally demonstrates a natural ability for engaging and inspiring her students. She shows versatility and commitment. Congratulations, Ally!

Congratulations to Dan Hansen, winner of the Award for Diversity and Inclusion! Nominated by his assistant coach, Dan is sensitive to students’ personal concerns and advocates for changes to “problematic” school traditions. He is commited to providing a safe place for all students.

Amber Tilley is this year’s WCTE Teacher of Excellence! One of Amber’s colleagues calls her a spectacular colleague. Dedicated to education, Amber inspires, coaches, and gives of herself to her students and co-workers on a daily basis. Congratulations, Amber!

The Lee Burress Intellectual Freedom award was awarded to the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) Board of Trustees. They voted to retain a book challenged by a patron, stating that people should have a right to read, free from viewpoint-based or partisan censorship. The ELA teachers in attendance gave this group a standing ovation!

We really enjoyed having Penny Kittle join us today! From the WCTE board to all who was able to join us today: THANK YOU! It was a great convention, and we were glad to be in Wausau!
