Qui est Lawrence Stroll ? Les récentes rumeurs de rachat d'une écurie de F1 par le milliardaire canadien Lawrence Stroll ont braqué les projecteurs de l'actualité sur ce personnage haut en couleurs. On en avait déjà entendu parler au printemps, quand son nom fut évoqué à propos du rachat des parts de Lehman Brothers (12,3 %) dans Delta Topco, la société qui détient les droits commerciaux de la Formule 1. Une telle acquisition lui aurait donné une position de force vis-à-vis de CVC (le fonds d'investissement actionnaire majoritaire de Delta Topco) et de Bernie Ecclestone, mais l'homme d'affaires ne s'est pas entendu avec les curateurs sur le montant de la transaction (estimé à 1,5 milliard de dollars). Stroll a fait fortune dans la mode, suivant ainsi les traces de son père Leo qui fut distributeur en Amérique du Nord de la marque Pierre Cardin. Laurence Stroll (55 ans) a notamment développé les droits de marketing de quelques poids lourds du secteur (Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Pepe Jeans) avec beaucoup de réussite ces trente dernières années.Passionné de F1 et grand fan de Ferrari - il possède une impressionnante collection de bolides frappés du cheval cabré, et non des moindres (comme la 330 P4 sur la photo ci-dessus) - le Canadien a également racheté le circuit du Mont-Tremblant, situé non loin de Montréal dont il est originaire même s'il est résident en Suisse.
