My ficus burgundy got a repot!
I’ve had roots coming out of the drainage hole of its original pot since the end of last fall and I finally got around to repotting! 😆

It is now in a 6 inch pot and was originally in a 4 inch.
When repotting or up-potting, I will only upgrade to a pot that’s 2-4 inches larger than the previous one. Anymore than that and it will eventually lead to root rot and the soil staying wet for too long.

I used my own mix of indoor potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark to create my diy soil mixture for extra aeration and drainage (you can check out the link in my bio if you want to create a chunkier soil for yourself).
Because I waited til the soil was dried out before repotting, I made sure to water this guy afterwards in its new home!

Now it is ready to continue growing for the spring and summer 🤩

So the other day while watering I noticed all the yellow color this philo seems to have compared to my other philodendron brasil (has more dark green and light/neon green) and now I’m questioning if this is a brasil at all (like I thought it was) or something else like a philo silver stripe?
I get constant, consistent growth so it’s not like the plant is dying.
My other hypothesis is since moving it to a new spot that gets all day bright indirect light a few months ago, maybe all the light exposure is causing it to look like this?

If you have this plant or know your philodendrons well, let’s talk because I can’t stop thinking about this 😂

Baby cactus looking cute 🌵🌞
Once it’s warm enough outside this little guy will join my other cactus on a covered windowsill until late Fall when the temps go back down!

Getting so excited for warmer weather & fun beach days & vacations 🤩

I haven’t shown a full picture of my pilea in a while so here he is looking cute 🥰
His consistent & quick growth blows my mind daily!

These can survive in medium light but they really do prefer bright indirect light alll day. I’ve tried putting this outside in the summer before but a few stems snapped off from the wind, so I think it’s safe to say this is strictly an indoor only type of plant😅

As long as you give this plant the light it needs, it’s pretty easy to take care of. Go get yourself one, most nurseries and even grocery stores sell them!

My jade plant!
This plant has some history 😂
The original plant came from my mom it was a nice sized jade tree (the stem turned to bark) and sadly one day it became infested with mealy bugs. She wanted to throw the entire plant away but I was able to save 5 leaves and propagated them but only 1 leaf survived. Soon after, little baby leaves started to grow from that single leaf and almost a year later I added a super tiny jade plant I bought at a festival (I have a picture of that if you scroll down my feed).

THEN! We moved and in the process, lost a lot of leaves 😅 but I saved what I could, propagated the leaves and the plant continued to grow like nothing happened and this is what it looks like today. It’s the largest it’s ever been!! 🥳
Hopefully one day I can get this baby back to looking like a jade tree 💚

My ficus shivereana is the moment 💫
I’ve had this plant for a year and for a while her leaves were growing funky, but we’ve gotten some nice growth from her lately.

CARE for this ficus is easy in my opinion as long as it gets adequate light. Overall, the more variegation a plant has the more light it needs
This is a South facing window so gets really great bright direct light in the morning and bright indirect light for the rest of the day.
The weather is starting to warm up so once it’s consistently above 50° here at night I will keep all of my ficuses outside by our front door which faces NW (no direct sun in the morning but bright indirect sun during the day and direct afternoon sun til the sun sets
Do you have one of these?

Here’s my attempt at creating a room layout that has a South facing window. The largest window we have in the living room area where most of my plants are is South facing and then a smaller one that is East facing in the same room.

I added in some of my plants to give you an idea of what plants can do well in each lighting!

Low light: 💡
Snake plants
Zz plant
Pothos (add grow light for consistent growth)
Philos (add grow light for consistent growth)
• These plants can survive in this lighting but can be put in medium to indirect bright light as well •

Medium light: 💡
Prayer plant/maranta
Mini monstera or deliciosa
Bird of paradise
Peace lily

Indirect bright light: 💡
Monstera adansonii
Ficus altissima, burgundy, tineke (all the ficuses)
Pileas (Chinese money plant, watermelon Peperomia)
String of pearls
Hoyas
• Most plants can do well in this kind of lighting •

Direct bright light: 💡
Cactuses
Jade plant (also indirect bright)
Kalanchoe (flapjack plant)
Echeverias
Aloe plant

🧭 Put those compasses to use if you don’t know what direction a window is facing.

Repotted my 2 fire stick pencil cactuses into one pot 🤩
I recently saw one of these at a greenhouse and it was taller than me!!! (I am only 5’1” BUT seeing that, my jaw dropped 😧).
I’m so excited to see this one hopefully grow to be that big & beautiful as well!

CARE is simple. Put it in a super sunny spot & only water when the soil is dried completely through (the cactus will also look wrinkly like a raisin).

Look at this luscious beauty! The philodendron brasil 💚
I love how the new leaves have a pink hue but as they mature, turn to those vibrant yellow-ish and green colors.

This is a fun, easy and beginner friendly plant to have!
It gets bright, indirect light all day even though it’s set pretty far back from a window (This one probably shouldn’t be placed in direct afternoon sun, the leaves would just burn).
I don’t water it until the soil is dried and leaves are saggy.
Do you have this plant?

My golden pothos Penelope 💖
She’s a fast grower and now that she has a much sunnier and sky-exposed spot, I think she’ll start growing even more leaves than she was before with mostly just this grow light.

I water 💦 when it’s completely dry and the leaves look sad but after watering she perks back up in a couple hours!
This pot is from a bunch of water propagations that came from my mom’s plant. I wish I had pictures of all the propagations to show the difference but I think I will always be amazed at how plants grow 😍

Updated growth of my variegated string of pearls, Water Malone 🍉 (yes, that’s his name)!
He gets bright direct light in the early morning and bright indirect light for the rest of the day and I don’t water until the soil is completely dry BUT I do mist the top once a week. (because of its shallow root system, I don’t want to fully saturate the soil once a week since the middle and bottom of the soil will still be wet but that means the roots towards the top of the soil dry out faster, hence the misting!)

I’m on the hunt for 2 cute and simple macrame hangers that have like a square or circular base to them to add this guy and my ruby cascade to on a new little shelf hanger I recently made and put together. If you know of any or how to make them??? I’m all ears! 😊

My philodendron white knight 🤍
This is definitely a slow grower from what I’ve experienced but the newest leaf has the most variegation I’ve seen yet 😆 It sits by my kitchen window and gets bright indirect light all day and some steam from washing dishes or pouring boiling water into the sink.
I only water when the soil has pretty much dried out completely and the leaves begin to sag.
When it comes to my pothos and philos, I tend to let them “tell/show” me when they’re thirsty!

✨NEW PLANT✨ this is the Rhaphidophora tetrasperma (aka mini monstera, but isn’t actually a monstera 🤪) I’ve wanted this plant probably since plants started peaking my interest in 2019/2020. I first saw one about 2 years ago but didn’t buy it (didn’t really have a good spot in our old house to place it), saw one again at another plant shop recently… didn’t like the way it looked so I said nah I’ll keep waiting and then I found some AGAIN ! 3rd times the charm right? and I’m so glad I remained patient because I’ve never seen a full one like this before. There was no way I could pass it up this time!!

LIGHT NEEDS ☀️💡
From what I’ve read they like medium to bright INDIRECT light. I’m having a bit of trouble finding the perfect spot. I think I’m going to build a little bench stand thing so it’s raised to the perfect height in the spot where I think it can thrive. For now, it’s in a place that gets direct morning light and some afternoon sun, but I’ll watch to see if that afternoon sun is too harsh and burns the leaves😅

CARE 💧🌿
I read that the care for this is similar to a monstera deliciosa, a monstera adansonii (my Swiss cheese plant), or philodendrons so I’ll let the soil on this guy dry out before watering again. That might change but that’s the plan for now!
This plant also prefers to climb and grow vertically. As the vines get longer, I’ll probably add a trellis or some kind of pole to keep the leaves growing up and not hanging down.

I’m so excited to learn how to care for this guy best and share my thoughts and experience with you all! ☺️
If you have this plant, I’m open to alll the tips!!

Another growth update for my philodendron micans! I love these velvety leaves. This plant prefers indirect bright light, not direct light which is why I have it in this corner. I recently added a grow light since the top started looking a little sparse. This is another easy care, fast growing, vining plant that you should add to your collection!

06/04/2024

Haven’t fully shown off Gerald (monstera adansonii) since it was repotted last Summer! I’ve even trimmed some of the bottom off TWICE this Winter. If you’re looking for an easy care, vining plant this is a great one to have!

I realized the other day I haven’t shared this plant and I’ve had it for exactly 6 months today 🙃 This is my fire stick pencil cactus! Yes, it’s a cactus so it doesn’t have to be watered much. I water it about once a month (when the sticks start looking wrinkly like a raisin). It’s in a small plastic pot & gets bright direct light all morning and bright indirect light for the rest of the day. I have another separate one in another planter and I plan on joining them together in a terracotta pot at some point this Spring or Summer!
I also have 2 little air plants hanging out on top of the soil (gifted by my MIL😊)

New plant! This one has been a wishlist plant for years and I could never find it in person!! She doesn’t look like much now but wait til I give her some TLC. She’ll be a beaut by Summertime. The Peperomia Ruby Cascade🤩

My pilea is blooming?!?! 🤯 I had no idea that this plant was capable of growing anything other than its green leaves!! Cash money will always be my favorite plant (but don’t tell the others that🤭)

Went to the Philadelphia Flower Show today and got all the plant inspo 🤩

My spider plant lives in water!
This plant was gifted to me this way and since it already had grown so many roots, I just make sure the water never runs out! 💦

New leaf just wanted a hug 🤗

It has been a minute since I’ve posted 🫣 Most of my plants have been doing great so far this Winter and I wanted to show off this philodendron with all its new growth! 🤩

R.I.P. to my little prickly pear cactus (mealy bugs 😭) and my snake plant (basically froze to death and I tried everything to bring it back to life)
Hope you’re having a happy Wednesday

My ficus tineke that I’ve been rehabbing this entire summer has been doing pretty well since I brought all my ficuses inside. We have a new leaf getting ready to open up any day now 🤩
