I have had the recipe for Captain Parker’s world famous clam chowdah squirreled away for years, but I’ve never made it. Tonight was a perfect night for it, because the kiddos’ nonna, a former Massachusan(?) stopped by for a visit! We did a caramelized orange and fennel salad to go with it, as well as a Boston cream pie. Sam and I had Boston cream pie at the Parker House Hotel, where it all began. I’ve never known how it got its name because, as you’ll notice, it’s definitely a cake. Delicious vanilla sponge with vanilla custard and chocolate ganache. At any rate, it was yum. My sister, who has raved about Captain Parker’s chowder for years, and nonna both heartily endorsed this as legit chowdah. The recipe calls for an entire pound of butter and a quart of cream, so not good for the waistline, but good for the soul. 🤣
