Citizen of the Year
The Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to an individual (or couple) whose outstanding service and dedication have made a significant contribution to the East Naples community. Qualities looked for are as follows:

A person whose time, dedication and talents helps make East Naples a great place to live, work, play and learn.
A person who has made a positive difference in the lives of fellow citizens.
A person with the qualities of honesty and integrity.
The individual recognized does not have to be a member of the East Naples Civic & Commerce. A nominee need only be nominated once to be considered. The number of nominations received per nominee will bear no weight in their selection.

Business of the Year
The Business of the Year Award is presented to a business which has contributed to the economic vitality and demonstrated an unusual faith in the future business climate of East Naples. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following:

Exceptional growth through creation of additional jobs, expansion of facilities or increased revenue.
Created a new dimension to the existing business.
Business focuses on purchasing goods and services locally where possible.
Business owner(s) or upper management has an excellent working relationship with their employees.
Business with a reputation for integrity and exemplary customers service in the community.
Had a positive influence and impact on the area.

Diamond Award
D - dedicated, I - inspiring, A - accomplished, M - motivated, O - outstanding, N - noble, D - driven
The Diamond Award is presented to an individual/couple or business member of East Naples Civic & Commerce who has contributed and demonstrated an unusual faith in the future of the organization. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following:

Demonstrate a high level of spirt, level of creativity and determination for East Naples success.
New and innovative approaches/initiatives used in order to benefit the organization.
Has a reputation for integrity and exemplary service in the organization.
Has a positive influence and impact on ENC&C’s growth.

Past President, Naples Area Board of Realtors
Corey McCloskey is the Vice President of Operations at John R. Wood Properties, currently overseeing the Education, Relocation, and Technology groups at the company. She served as the 2021 President of the Naples Area Board of Realtors and is currently the DVP, District Vice President, for District 5 for Florida Realtors.
Corey has over eighteen years of real estate experience, including both administrative and sales work. Prior to her position, she worked as the Director of Career Development for John R. Wood Properties, and as Project Coordinator.
McCloskey began her career in real estate as a Sales Associate in 2003. She spent seven years helping buyers and sellers find their own slice of paradise before beginning internal work as a Project Coordinator and Broker in 2011, when she received her Active Brokers License in the state of Florida. In 2013, she graduated from the Leadership Academy of NABOR and earned the NABOR Educator of the Year award.
Corey has earned an impressive list of professional achievements, ranging from her John R. Wood Rising Star award in 2004, to her committee position on the National Association of Realtors Federal Business Issues Policy Committee in 2021 and NAR Member Engagement Committee in 2022. She was also recognized as Citizen of the Year for the Naples Area Board of Realtors in 2018. Corey enjoys her free time with her family and has a love of all things SWFL.

About our Forum
East Naples Civic & Commerce takes great pride in this opportunity to bring those seeking elected office before our membership and community. Though all registered candidates are Republicans, this is a strictly non-partisan forum. Candidates were first contacted in February and any candidate that since registers for the office will be accommodated to the best of our ability. Candidates were sent questions vetted by our Moderator on March 1, 2022. It will be the moderator's discretion to which order they are asked and if time allows for questions to be asked from the floor. This is make best use of the time for both the sake of the candidates and also for those in attendance to hear diverse and ranging topics on important issues facing East Naples. Each Candidate will have a two minute introduction. For each question, candidates will have a 90 second response time and then have 90 seconds to close at conclusion. Questions will be posed for all candidates to respond.
We will begin lunch by 11:50am at the very latest so please plan to arrive and register on time.

About the Candidates

Daija Hinojosa - Daija Hinojosa and her husband Xavier have been full time residents of Collier County for 10 years. Daija and her husband spend their time with a non-profit, Agents for Change International, that specializes in mentorship & leadership training. She is a business consultant and is looking forward to bringing a fresh perspective to Collier County.

Daniel Kowal - Daniel Kowal is a US Army veteran and retired Law Enforcement officer. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he entered into a career of civilian Law Enforcement. He served as a Special Agent in Washington D.C., followed by 18 years as a Deputy Sheriff working for the Collier County Sheriffs office. Daniel is the Chief of Operations of Halex Corporation, a property holdings company here in Naples.

Michelle McLeod - Michelle is a third generation Floridian, raised in Fort Myers and now a resident of Collier County for 30 years. Michelle’s business and government experiences range from 25 years in the hotel industry, six years in banking, four years as a city council member for the City of Naples, and decades of service on advisory boards. Along with her professional experience, Michelle has an undergraduate degree from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana and a graduate degree from Florida Gulf Coast University with a concentration in Finance. She is also a proud graduate of Leadership Collier ‘14 and Leadership Florida, # # .

Penny Taylor - Penny Taylor brings over 20 years of experience to local government, advancing quality of life measures based on water quality, growth and development, and the economy. She was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. She was named Chair in 2017 and 2021. From 2000-2010 Taylor served on the Naples City Council including two years as Naples Vice-Mayor.

About our Moderator - Eric Staats
Eric has worked as a journalist in Southwest Florida for more than 30 years, currently as the Government Accountability Editor for The News-Press in Fort Myers and the Naples Daily News. Before that he covered business and real estate, the city of Naples, and the environment. He was part of a team of journalists that produced "Deep Trouble: The Gulf in Peril," which won an Edward J. Meeman Award for environmental reporting. His series with Ryan Mills about Florida's mismanagement of its eroding beaches, "Shrinking Shorelines," won the Gold Medal for Public Service from the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors.

Naples Pathways Coalition

The Paradise Coast Trail (PCT) will connect Naples to Bonita Springs, Collier Seminole State Park, Ave Maria and other areas within and beyond Collier County. It will expand transportation options, improve health and wellness, reduce our carbon footprint and provide a destination to experience the Paradise Coast's unique beauty. The PCT will drive quality of life and healthier lifestyles, yield economic benefits to the county, increases property values, and enable greater safety for walkers, runners, recreational and commuter bicyclists.

The first segment we are focusing on is the connection of the Gordon River Greenway (4 miles) and the Rich King Memorial Greenway (3 miles), then to the new Paradise Coast Sports Complex. This will be an exciting and important first phase!
