Amazon rainforest in #brazil. *exhaaale* so beautiful. Look at that reflection! Was out there for work filming a course for the SDG Academy. Such good times #tbt #amazonrainforest #mothernatureheals

From this lens it invites me to look at the collective pain in the world as being related to the emergence of new ways of being. Maybe the pain itself is cracking us open to new ways of being. Or maybe the pain is a product of being cracked open. Either way, it leaves me with a curiosity about how to use my awareness of collapse to constructively work with experiences of pain to help actualize the wisdom and potential within it. How to soften our hearts and open our minds to learn from the peoples, cultures, myths and perspectives that have moved through transfiguration before. # Join me on Substack to keep exploring this, would love to hear from you ➤ www.wehealforall.substack.com

Therefore we need narratives, even loosely-threaded ones, that help us dance with the reality of our times in constructive ways. Narratives that help us be of service in whatever way that means to us as a unique individual. We need perspectives, even partially-baked ones, that invite in a new vantage point about the phenomena we see that can help energy slide and glide when it gets stuck; that can breath new life into dank, stagnant space. Oooh! excited to roll this out 🙌 Follow along here on FB to dive deep into the evolutionary perspective on emotions. It helps me answer questions like: Why do we have emotions? What should I do with mine? It also helps me think about collective healing - It gives me a cool perspective on why there might be so much emotional energy in our collective nervous system these days.. 🧐 #collectivehealing 🌿 Looking to go deeper on emotions? #7 How collective healing & these changing times connect to the evolutionary perspective of emotions.
#7 The evolutionary perspective on emotions helps me explore these times we live in & the role of collective healing. ꩜ Evolutionary purpose of emotions series . . If I look at society as a collective body that has its own nervous system, it’s easy for me to see there are vast amounts of fear, anger, sadness, and confusion alive in it these days. I see it in our news cycles, political rhetoric, widespread polarization, social unrest. If I turn to the evolutionary perspective on emotions for inspiration, and glean wisdom from what we know about emotions at the individual level, it makes me wonder… What if the presence of all of this emotional energy is not so much a sign of our inherent doom or brokenness as a society, but is instead a sign of our system going through an evolutionary process of change. That these widespread emotions are energy that’s driving all of this (video #3). This invites me into a cool perspective shift. Instead of me seeing this emotional energy to mean that we’re f**ked (which, let’s be honest, happens sometimes..), it invites me to see it as an intelligence in our system (video #4) that has come to the surface to help us figure out how to respond to the changes in our world. To cope with our environments and therefore enhance our adaptation (call back to Dr. Diana Fosha’s @dianafosha quote in video #1). It makes me think that these emotions are communicating something to us about our collective needs these days. That they’re actually allies (video #3). They have a purpose. And our job is to learn how to listen. Which is where collective healing comes in. We can use the healing-centered practices that the evolutionary perspective on emotions offer us to work with what’s arising at the collective level. To tune into how it shows up in my communities, in the media, in my family. To process and understand it. In order to use it as bread crumbs to figure out what our system needs and where to go next. . . 🎥this

#6 The evolutionary perspective on emotions helps me zoom out and look at my feelings from a bigger-picture lens.
#6 The evolutionary perspective on emotions helps me zoom out and look at my feelings from a bigger-picture lens. ꩜ Evolutionary purpose of emotions series . . It helps me have a little bit more space between myself and what I’m feeling. When a big emotion arises, instead of feeling enmeshed with it or over-identifying with it, I can zoom out and hold a bigger-picture lens to figure out what’s going on. For instance, the evolutionary perspective helps me get curious about the sensations in my body. Knowing they have an intelligence to them. I can explore those sensations as if they’re bread crumbs leading me down a path to what I need. 👀 Another thing this perspective does is it makes my need to process what I’m feeling just a practical exercise, instead of a shameful taboo. Whether with a therapist, while journaling, with a friend—the need to process my feelings has simply to do with the physics of my system. Emotions have energy that needs to be felt and released. Therefore it becomes a super normal, practical thing to do as a human who has emotions. 👍 . . 🎥 video 6 of 7 of my series on the evolutionary purpose of emotions! Follow me to catch them all. #4 If emotions help us to survive then that means they have an intelligence to them.

#3 If emotions are part of our evolution as a species then that means they help us survive.
#3 If emotions are part of our evolution as a species then that means they help us survive. ꩜ Evolutionary purpose of emotions series For me, this moves beyond normalizing emotions towards seeing them as allies. 🤝💪 The evolutionary perspective teaches us that starting from when we are born, we have core emotions that are ready to work for us. This is how emotions education Hilary Jacob Hendels puts it. They let us know what’s good for us, what’s bad, what we need, when we need it, and everything in between. They can be thought of as ‘programs for action’ that drive us to adapt and respond to what’s going on. To navigate danger, keep ourselves safe, generate life… And just generally survive and thrive! High-fives for emotions 👏👏 Am I right?? . . 🎥video 3 of 7 of my series on the evolutionary purpose of emotions! Follow me to catch them all. Check out my page to catch up.
