I host Mary Xmas and Bloodfest. Those events are best in venues where they began and have been hosted at most often.
Each are better productions with several days before and after the event reserved for set up and break down.
We've done these events as desert renegades and they are not as good or worse shut down. Much of the planned production gets squashed onsite without the necessary time needed to do it all.
Also, we want to bring out talent for the community. Most headliners won't or prefer not to commit to an illegal venue.
A lot of people regard me as the desert rave Godfather. Rather, I am a person that kept the underground community going, several times over the last three decades, by taking it to the desert.
When venues were not available, the several times police completely shut down venue events for everyone and most famously the inevitable attendance drop where near all the other promoters stopped hosting other than a few of us that continued to provide for the community.
