Dave Clark
An artist of 2D and 3D “sculptural things” that might tell a story, cause one to think of a stor
Functional/dysfunctional furniture along with art and constructions. Dave Clark has been making tables and wall constructions for the past 40 years. His inspiration comes from the patterns and complexities found in electrical substations and as seen elsewhere on his walks and travels. He loves repetition and order, as well as playing natural surfaces against those manipulated with other materials.
Am thinking of shutting this page down (FB artist page and not my personal page) as I am not posting all that much. My energy is over on my Instagram page so if you want to see what I am doing art-wise, you should go over there and follow me. If not, all good. But this page is going to go away sooner than later.
Today. Tomorrow. Be here. Be there.
New stuff….
New
Gallery 17lb and Gallery 23lb. Here in Wrigley at 2483 and 2489 Eucalyptus, 90806.
Some work over the past few months
That, or you have just grown tired of either being ignored, rejected, not included, asked, or whatever… and are at the point of just “f**k this.” Pretty much.
In a show! Opening is this Saturday, April 29th. Be there!
Bursting at the seams. Pretty much no room to store anything more. Probably several hundred pieces here in 3-4 locations. These are just a few images of what is here and don’t include what we have in the house. I dunno. Shows don’t really do anything for me. A solo show would be great, but am of the mind it wouldn’t result in sales either. My work really isn’t gallery art. Forget museum. Forget commercial, but then am happy with that. That ain’t ever going to happen. Unless someone comes along with a presence in the art world… yeah that ain’t going to happen either. Pretty much at a dead end.
Recent pieces….
Something that I simply grow tired of and simply find insulting are friends who feel the need to make comments about my art that they “think” is witty or whatever. Not appreciated and well, simply rude and disrespectful. I will be the first to admit that my art is low-brow, rudimentary, rough, or whatever. Yeah I get it, it is not setting the art world on fire nor do I get much recognition. I don’t have an MFA, let alone a BFA, but what I do is what I am. Not feeling great.
Nutrition. Feeding station. What is in the tubes? Last of this series of industrial skins.
New platforms or stands/pedestals for these two skin blocks that I made last summer. Like.

Mechanical romance. Melvin and Sydney.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we want to celebrate with all of our creative friends one last time before 2022 ends. And this time we are doing something special with a Holiday Art Exchange.
Bring a piece of your art wrapped, something $50 in value or less, and you can participate in this “Secret Santa” gift exchange. No obligation necessary, but the more the merrier.
You and all your creative friends are welcome to join us on December 6 between 6 and 9 PM, at Long Beach Beer Lab, 518 W. Willow, and let’s send 2022 out on the festive bang.

Our Story
dysfunctional art
A good 40 years ago, Dave Clark was making tables and wall constructions, which led to numerous shows of his constructions as well as representation of his tables through design centers in both Miami and Laguna Beach. He drifted away from his art once he became an Educator, shifting his energy to meeting the needs of his students and other artistic interests. Since retiring in 2016, he has returned to his art and tables.
His early inspiration came from the patterns and complexities found in electrical substations and common objects, shapes, materials, and patterns. Today his inspiration comes from lying awake at night and not being able to sleep… and then thinking; Oh, yeah, that would be cool to try. He loves repetition and order, as well as playing a material or surface against other materials or surfaces with textures and shapes. To counter-balance the potential of sterility and sameness, one can find a sense of humor and playfulness in various pieces. He wants his pieces to age, as people do, so many are left raw and unsealed.
He sees his art as more dysfunctional than functional, though many are... well, rather functional.
