Attention Beekeepers: Important Update on the Yellow-Legged Hornet

We at PAm want to inform beekeepers about the Yellow-Legged Hornet (YLH), which was found last fall near Savannah, GA. These hornets, which prey on honey bees (and many other pollinators), pose a serious threat to hive health and productivity, thereby endangering our food supply. The YLH builds nests resembling those of bald-faced hornets, often high in trees, making detection challenging.

This month, three nests were successfully eradicated in Savannah—a critical step in preventing the YLH from establishing a foothold. Beekeepers are encouraged to report any sightings of YLH or their nests and to educate themselves on identifying and managing this invasive pest.
