If you thought knitting was something that happened by a warm cosy fire on a winter's evening with a cat on your lap - well maybe think again. Either functional items or art installations seem to be within the range of this growing activity. Giant knitting may get even bigger - we'll have to see :-)

The Amazing "Wintergatan Marble Machine"
It really is great how creative people are inspired by others. This amazing machine is the result of Swedish musician Martin Molin being inspired by a visit to the Museum Speelklok in Utrecht, Netherlands which has a collection of automatic music-playing machines/instruments. Armed with that inspiration Molin found Canadian Matthias Wandels' YouTube videos that supplied the information needed to make wooden gears ..... and the result is this construction with thousands of metal marbles falling through the machine to make music.
( See a series of videos on how the machine was made - follow the link >>> http://www.wintergatan.net/#/m.m.machine )
See and Understand ! What an impressive video - Who needs advertisements when a product demo speaks for itself !
It has to be pretty important to get on the boat to do this - and a fair estimate seems to have been made on the strength of the materials used ! (Thanks Andrew H)
A promising looking product that should revolutionise some areas of photography and make shots accessible for the amateur and anyone interested in sports photography too. Currently at prototype stage the Lily 'Drone' follows a tracker and allows an on-board camera to shoot GoPro quality movies or stills of whoever is carrying the tracker unit. But as the company says "Other products are really just drones that carry a camera. Lily is a camera that happens to be flying." A target price of $999 dollars is currently set with a discount for pre-orders. Keep checking out the development - and the emergence of any competition - as there really should be a good market for a reliable product. An amusing old Pathe News clip of 'modern' technology updating a Medieval 'pastime'. Fortunately medical care has improved in the intervening years too ! Definitely something not to try at home !
