My own sweet Magoo, it was great therapy to work on this. Pastels on pastel board

How it started

The dog on my profile photo started my desire for pet portriats, Venus was a special girl who left this world too soon, she was my dear friends dog and my friend (who had always supported my art) asked me to do her portrait, I was nervous, I had not done someones pet before, I had not done an oil painting...and so the process began and it was a leaning experience as well as a really uplifting one, I felt and saw Venus emerge from the canvas and I felt her presence as I went along. From that painting a few other people have asked me to paint their dogs...each one is a challenge and each one a learning experience. But when I see the owner of the dog’s eyes fill with tears or become emotional over the portrait, it makes all the hard work worth it. I am still beginning on this journey but I am excited to see where it will lead. My love for animals has always been a part of my life, how great to share these wonderful beings on canvas.
