A great day was had at the Bere Island summer camp with a special visit from our local clean coasts rep Elanie Dolye. The kids enjoyed a coastal walk and some fascinating experiments and chats along the way. Thank you to clean coasts for supporting all the great work the community of Bere island have done and continue to do, to keep our beautiful shoreline clean.
Clean Coasts also funded our new Biodiversity sign at Cloughland Strand. This sign shows the many different species of wildlife that you could spot along our coast. πŸ‹πŸŸπŸ¦

Keep the kids busy once the school holidays start and promote pollinator awareness πŸ˜€ Paint stones to look like pollinators - bees, butterflys even bats πŸ¦‡πŸ¦‡ and display them in the flower beds around the Island.

Attention all children of Bere Island πŸ˜€ Will you help us decorate our Island signposts? We are hoping you all will paint stones and shells and place them in the bases around the townland signposts to make our Island happy and colourful 🀩 Ask your parents to send us photos and we can display them here for everyone to see.

We would like to Thank everyone for their continued work to keep our Island looking its best πŸ˜€ As the time for judging is almost here if you see any pieces of litter could you please pick it up. This makes such a huge diffence not just to the appearance of the island but also to the animals and insects that also call this Island home 🐦

Please join us in our new 5 year Biodiversity Plan - So join the buzz & save the bees - Beeeeeee Poud of Bere Island πŸ™ƒ

With the help of you all we are going to transform our flower beds, pots and green areas into a pollinators paradise and we hope to encourage our juniour pollinators to get involved.

Pollinator facts and info will soon be popping up in various flower pots around the island and we encourage all kids to paint a stone to look like their favourite pollinator and then to read these facts when they go to place their stones in the flower beds and pots.

If you would like to get involved or have any other ideas how we can expand our Biodiversity Plan please get in touch !!

Who will join us for
'Every No Mow May area, no matter how small, can be a lifeline for your local pollinators. Bees don’t fly far from their nests to look for food (bumblebees tend to forage within 1km, and solitary bees only within a few hundred metres). If only a fraction of Ireland’s gardens took part in No Mow May, the collective impact would be huge.
Taking part in No Mow May couldn’t be easier – just lock away the lawnmower for the month of May and wait and see what grows. You might be surprised by what appears over a few short weeks. You might see plants like Dandelions, Red and White Clover, and Birds-foot trefoil, all of which are excellent sources of food for pollinating insects, as well as bees, butterflies, and birds, all attracted by the feast on your lawn!' - Pollinators.ie
