🎭 Le Gâteau Opéra 🍰

‘Le Gâteau Opéra’ is a new collection inspired by cake (of course!)

I read how the ‘Opera’ cake earned its name due to the layers of sponge and ganache reassembling the levels of an Opera house (such as ). I started to wonder what the cake slice would look like as a stage and then it needed some characters wearing costumes made of well… more cake. 😆🧁

This illustration, as well as the individual illustrations of the ladies (who I will introduce in separate posts) are available as A4 and A5 prints in my online shop. (There are also special offers on the full collection of prints)🛍️

🪞’Mousequerade’ 🪞

Instead of a traditional Christmas card this year I have opted for a party themed card featuring some little mice 🐭🎉

The cards are A5 in size (larger than my usual range) making them perfect to pop in a frame too! 🖼️

👑 Coronation of King Charles III 👑

My illustration to commemorate the Coronation ✨

I have read how much the King loves red squirrels (he leaves nuts in his coat pocket for them and sometimes lets them run in his house in Scotland!) He is also the patron of the Red Squirrel Survival Trust. 🐿️

I have included flowers which represent England (Roses), Scotland (Thistles), Wales (Daffodils) and Northern Ireland (Shamrock) to reflect his love of nature and work in the area of environmental activism. 🐝💐

🤍 Queen Eizabeth II Art Prints 🤍

I’ve received some lovely messages from people asking if they can buy the artwork I did of our late Queen.

I have decided to do prints of the artwork and will be donating 50% of the money from each sale of them to Muscular Dystrophy UK. The late Prince Philip was their Royal Patron and it is a charity which is very close to my heart.

My mum’s brother, my uncle who I unfortunately never met, sadly died at just 15 years old of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne’s is a genetic disorder which causes progressive muscle degeneration and primarily affects boys. Muscular Dystrophy UK covers more than 60 muscle-weakening and wasting conditions which affect around 110,000 children and adults in the UK.

My uncle loved the Queen and the pomp and ceremony of Royal events so I hope to raise some money for this charity from my artwork of Her Majesty.

If you purchase either my Queen Elizabeth portrait or my ‘The Queen Remembered’ illustration then half the money will go to Muscular Dystrophy UK. The prints are available to purchase from my website www.alexandraroseillustration.com/shop

✨’Dressed like a Duchess’ ✨

A little mouse seems to have found herself a miniature portrait of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire by Thomas Gainsborough (the original hangs at Chatsworth) and has decided to fashion herself an outfit like the Duchess’.🐭🎩🪶

And now the time has come (I’m terrible with puns, sorry 😅) for another new card! ✨

‘Almost Midnight’ is an illustration I did a little while ago combining two of my favourite objects from the Wallace Collection: Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s The Swing and a musical clock by Jean-Claude Chambellan Duplessis, the Elder.

'The Swing' has always reminded me of Cinderella as she is about to lose her slipper - as the time is almost midnight, maybe this explains why her slipper was left behind...? 🩰
