A successful day running Avalanche Foundation training in today with a keen team. All the fundamentals covered.

We have one space left on our Crevasse Rescue course running next Tuesday 9 Jan in . It’s course is specifically aimed at skiers and boarders who want to ride on glaciers

We will cover the following:

1. Avoiding crevasses in the first place.
2. Self rescue.
3. Comapanion rescue.
4. Building anchors.

The day is run at a max ratio of 1:4 so you’ll get constant input throughout the day.

Family 'heartbroken' after Britons die in avalanche Kate Vokes, 54, and her son Archie, 22, were killed in an avalanche near Mont Blanc in the French Alps.

Sad news this morning after an avalanche killed two people in the local resort of Saint Gervais yesterday:

Haute-Savoie : deux morts sous une avalanche dans la station de Saint-Gervais au pied du Mont-Blanc - France Bleu L'alerte est arrivée à 15h30 au PGHM de Chamonix, ce jeudi. Une avalanche sur un secteur hors-piste de Saint-Gervais a emporté trois skieurs. Deux sont décédés, le troisième est indemne a communiqué la préfecture de Haute-Savoie.

What’s involved ? The Avalanche Foundation course covers all the basics of avalanche safety including:

What increases risk.
Organising a group for a day.
Safe travel.
Avalanche Bulletins.
Using safety gear including transceivers.
Realistic burial scenarios.

Crevasse Rescue covers the following:

Avoiding crevasse falls in the first place !
Getting yourself out of a crevasse.
Building strong anchors.
Rescuing a crevasse victim.
