RS Philippines recently hosted over 70 procurement and engineering professionals at our “Reinvigorating the North: Innovation and Technology in Preparation for the Future” event. Held at SMX Clark, the participants were all eager to explore transformative technological solutions.

RS Philippines held yet another highly successful event last week in Cebu, the country’s third-largest metropolitan area. The “Enabling Industry Transformation through Automation & Digital Innovation” event drew a strong turnout of 128 procurement professionals and engineers, despite a last-minute change in the official holiday schedule.

RS Philippines General Manager Ronald Rosario set the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions and innovative explorations. Central to the event was an in-depth discussion about and , highlighting how these solutions can create more effective operations and enhance safety protocols within various industries.

Our key strategic partners, including Phoenix Contact SEA, Fluke South East Asia and OMRON Group, joined us to showcase their innovative products and technologies. RS Thailand and Domnick Thailand joined forces again as OneTeam in the recently concluded Modern Manufacturing Forum and Maintenance Forum. Both forums were conducted concurrently in Pattana Sport Resort, Chonburi on 27 July, and welcomed a large turnout of engineers, technicians, factory managers and leaders in production, maintenance, mechanical and purchasing functions. These participants hailed from diverse industries, including automotive & parts, electric, electrical, machinery & equipment, and iron & sheet metal.

Aside our exhibition booth, we were privileged to present our products during the product showcase section. Through the topics of “Green Productivity & Industrial IoT for Smart Manufacturing” presented at the Modern Manufacturing Forum and “How to Achieve Zero Breakdown by Smart Maintenance” at the Maintenance Forum, we hope we’ve hashtag to for our customers and community with our solutions and innovations.

Nearly 100 professionals from various industries, including engineering, procurement, maintenance, quality assurance, operations, and information technology, joined RS Philippines at the Crimson Hotel Alabang on July 19, 2024 for our "South Luzon Invasion: Unleashing Innovation for Businesses Forward" event. The event focused on empowering businesses with cutting-edge solutions and technological advancements.

The day started with a warm welcome from Ronald Rosario, General Manager of RS Philippines, who set the tone for a day of insightful discussions and knowledge sharing.

The event featured insightful presentations about RS's own brands and RS Safety Solutions. Attendees were also treated to in-depth discussions on the advanced applications of products from leading brands such as Fluke Corporation, Megger, and Phoenix Contact, expertly delivered by our RS Philippines Sales Representatives. Our RS Hong Kong team recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hong Kong MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司's "Station Rail Voyage" exhibit to learn more about the fascinating history and inner workings of Hong Kong's iconic railway system. We are grateful to the MTR team for hosting us and are privileged to learn first-hand from their railway knowledge and passion.

As a longstanding partner of MTR, RS Hong Kong is proud to provide reliable products, services and support to help maintain the efficiency and connectivity of Hong Kong's rail network to for our customers and community of commuters. During our visit, we had the chance to meet with different retired trains, all bearing endearing nicknames like "Yellow Head" and "MLR". It was a truly enlightening experience to go behind the scenes and discover the stories that keep Hong Kong's trains running smoothly each day.

The RS Hong Kong team was honoured to participate in the 2024 10th International Conference on Power Electronics Systems and Applications, held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 5-7 June. This conference provided a valuable platform to engage with our key educational stakeholders, including professors, technical engineers, students and end users from various academic institutions within and beyond Hong Kong.

RS Hong Kong leveraged this opportunity to showcase our comprehensive solutions and applications for the power electronics application. Through informative presentations, the team was able to share our offerings while also gaining deeper insights into the pressing challenges faced by this audience. Learning from the latest trends and thinking from their panel sessions, this mutually beneficial exchange will undoubtedly inform our continued efforts to deliver innovative products and services that hashtag for those working in power electronics.

Our whole RS Singapore team recently came together for a volunteering day delivering fresh food and non-perishable food supplies to the elderly and less fortunate. The team partnered with the local food bank Food from the Heart.

Aside from making personal donations of food supplies, the RS team packed fresh food and dried foodstuff including staples for the beneficiaries. Subsequently, the food items were delivered by colleagues to beneficiaries all across Singapore.

RS Philippines celebrated its 25th anniversary on 29 November, gathering with distinguished customers, esteemed partners and team members to recognise everyone’s contribution to building RS Philippines to the establishment that it has grown into today.

On this momentous occasion, our CEO Simon Pryce, APAC President Sean Fredericks and other leaders in the APAC Leadership Team sent their congratulations to the RS Philippines team via video recordings.

The very earliest and top customers in the Philippines were presented tokens of acknowledgment for their unwavering support of RS over the years. Long-term strategic partners 2Go, Phoenix Contact and Schneider Electric were also recognised.

In a surprise gesture unbeknown to them, our longest-serving RS Philippines colleagues were presented long-service awards. Heartiest congratulations to Catherine Bagalawis, Ernesto Buenaventura and Ronald Rosario who have the remarkable honour of serving over 20 years in the company and are an inspiration to our younger colleagues!

Ahead of RS Philippines’ 25th anniversary, we catch up with 2 of our longest serving colleagues to find out what fuels them each day.

1. Why did you choose to work in RS?
Catherine: I chose to work with RS because I was impressed by the values and mission. Additionally, the working environment made a difference – from the culture of continuous learning and professional growth to the supportive and collaborative nature of the team. Everyone is willing to lend a hand, share their expertise and work together to achieve our goals.
It’s a place where I feel encouraged to grow and challenge myself.
Ronald: RS is an established company with a very strong background in the industry. Our processes are well structured and supported.

2. What were the early days of working in RS Philippines like?
Catherine: I remember in year 2000 we were just a small group of sales, 2 customer service colleagues here in the Philippines, until we built up a customer service division after a year and additional sales team members. We used to do manual reporting and daily activities until we installed a new SAP CIM system in 2013 enabling us to log our daily activities, provide easy checking and add new contacts.
Ronald: We had manual processes in place during early years. I recall we used thick paper catalogues during our sales calls, and these had limited offers in place. We also had to wait for a long time by fax machines for each order.

3. What do you think are some of RS Philippines’ greatest developments and accomplishments?
Ronald: RS launched our e-commerce platform in replacement of paper catalogue. There were a lot of concerns about going digital back then, about the transition. But I’m very glad that the team stayed committed and thrived. More recently this year, we also opened our Philippines warehouse after 25 years in the business, to be closer to our customers and cut down lead time.

4. What is the best part of working in RS?
Catherine: I think the best part is the people you are working with, who have now become your friends for years. I also enjoy the trainings that the company provided. All the sales conferences and the sharing experiences I have attended have been most memorable. Lastly, the respect and value for work-life balance is something I cherish. It’s not just about getting the job done, but also about ensuring we’re happy and healthy while doing it.
Ronald: I enjoyed the opportunities to interact with different markets during sales conferences around Southeast Asia. We used to gather each year and compete against other regions. I was also awarded as SEA Star Performer 2012 - Corporate Account Manager; I travelled with the other country leaders like Eileen and Guss, and bonded with sales teams across the region and with other functions. I tell younger colleagues that I am a living testament to growth within the company, be it lateral movement or progression. I have taken on about 10 roles in my career at RS, and most significantly, 4 roles in the last 3 years.

5. Could you please provide a quote reflecting on working at RS?
Catherine: “There is no secret to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
Ronald: I am inspired by Albert Einstein who said, “ In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” Let us not be fazed by challenges but focus instead on the opportunities.
