I remember the day I decided to take "the leap.” The moment I decided to TRY pursuing my hobby for a living and be a full-time stop-motion artist. 😆
🚙
It was late June of 2017, and and I were driving from Eugene to Portland... talking about life and trying to figure out what I was going to make of mine. I had been struggling to find a job after moving up to Berkeley from LA. I lacked confidence. I had pretty bad anxiety about anything and everything, for the first time in my life. And generally, I just felt super lost.
🤷♂️
Jesse asked in the car, “Why don’t you just TRY going full-time freelance? Just see what happens? Give yourself 6 months.” The idea sounded frightening, but I had zero better ideas.
📝
So in our rental car, on a yellow post-it note, I wrote myself a “contract” that went something like:
“From July 1, 2017 to Dec 31, 2017 I promise to...
🎨Pretend I am a full-time creative freelancer.

😬Put all of my energy into this passion and see what happens, with the opportunity to reevaluate in January and go find a 'real job' if I want to.”
✨
Around February 2018, I remember Jesse asking, “Wait, weren’t you supposed to reevaluate your career in January?” We both laughed. Because we knew there were no changes to be made.
