Cassava is a multicultural team of four Master students Industrial Design Engineering from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Starting from September 2016, team Cassava will be working together with the Indonesian startup CI-Agriculture to help small local farmers to anticipate on climate change in order to enhance food security. Global warming is a growing problem in a country like Indonesia that is very vulnerable to the effects of climate change. As the rural population is uneducated about climate change, the farmers
are confused about the irregularity of harvests. The production decline in agriculture poses a risk on the income of farmers and on the food security of the population that relies on staple foods. With weather conditions becoming unpredictable, a need for accurate weather information is formed. Team Cassava will help the local farmers to define the lack of crucial information and develop a sustainable, low-cost weather station to provide them with the essential knowledge and data. Forming such effective strategies to adapt to the effects of climate change will help to enhance a stable income and food security for the population.
