There are currently 2 local chapters: Topeka Legal Professionals and Wichita Legal Professionals. KLPI is comprised of members of local chapters, members-at-large, and honorary members. Membership is open to persons engaged as a legal secretary, legal assistant, law office administrator, stenographer, typist, receptionist, or clerk in any law office; any person employed in the court system, the tr
ust departments of banks or trust companies, abstracters and title companies, or in any public or private institution or office engaged in work of a legal nature, including the public office of the United States government, states, counties, cities, or municipalities; those persons licensed to practice law; and those persons who have belonged to another legal association. KLPI conducts weekend legal education seminars twice yearly during the annual and semi-annual board meetings. Membership in a local chapter offers many advantages: monthly meetings with programs of particular interest and educational value; advice and counsel of others in specified areas of legal procedure; development of friendships with those sharing similar interests and goals in the legal field; and an organization which can provide assistance to its local community in many different ways. Continuing Legal Education
KLPI and local chapters sponsor seminars, educational programs, workshops and professional courses. Continuing legal education (CLE) credits can be obtained by attending approved sponsored events. A CLE Award is presented upon application by any member who attains a minimum of 30 qualified hours of continuing legal education within a three-year period. Publication
The Whole Truth . . . is KLPI’s official publication, which contains news of members across the state, information concerning KLPI functions, news items of interest pertinent to the legal professional, and educational articles. is published three times a year. Certification
Assistance can be obtained in learning more about certification programs offered by national legal organizations: the Accredited Legal Secretary (ALS) and Professional Legal Secretary (PLS) certifications sponsored by the National Association of Legal Secretaries, Inc. (NALS); the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) and specialty certifications (CLAS) sponsored by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc. (NALA); and the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) sponsored by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA). See KLPI’s Certification Program section. Employment Referral
KLPI’s Employment Referral Committee is a referral service for members and other legal support professionals seeking employment in Kansas. The Committee’s service is made available to Kansas attorneys, law firms, members, and other legal support professionals seeking employees in the legal field. Employers may contact the Committee to advise KLPI of open/available positions and receive information from KLPI as to members seeking employment. Networking
