The British Nordic Ski Team was formed in 2001 as the British Nordic Development Squad to ensure that there was an opportunity for young athletes to progress into British teams. As a result of many years hard work by athletes, volunteers and coaches, athletes have progressed up through the system and are now competing on the world stage. At the top end of The Team, the "World Group" athletes are
We all know the benefits of sport and keeping active for young people in keeping healthy and maintaining good mental health but there is much more to be gained from being a part of an organisation like BNDS. Travelling, training & competing also promotes social interaction & the building of friendships.
These 2 young athletes, Aiden (Scotland) & Basti (Germany) met in December 2022 on a winter training camp in Sjusjøen, Norway. They kept in touch & were able to meet up again this Aug/Sept when Basti came to Scotland, staying with Aiden, training with his local club & going to his school.
Many of the athletes from clubs all over the country & beyond have formed great friendships helping them develop not just as athletes but as individuals.
Congratulations to all the BNDS Athletes & Coaches who raced in this year’s Rollerski series.
Some great racing and results all round.

Another solid session from our development squad athletes last week in beautiful Aberdeenshire 💪🏻
Our T2 Camp in Huntly is going well and is still not over yet. A photo from Thursday morning training - after a 10km uphill on classic rollerskis, athletes and coaches then ran a further 9km uphill before descending through bogs and marshland. There were some very wet and muddy legs after that 😎
The second Project NextGen event by London Cross-Country Ski Club / Rollerski Co to get more children into the sport will be taking place in Hyde Park, London on Saturday June 22. Find out more and book by clicking on the link: 🔗 http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nextgen.html.

Our first BNDS training camp of the year kicked off this week with a delightful day of testing. Athletes were put through a 3km run followed by a strength test in the gym. Well done everyone! 💪🏻
With our first training camp of the year just around the corner in Scotland, that means it’s not too long until the Kiltwalk in Aberdeen. A reminder that some of our athletes along with Jordan will be taking part in the ‘Mighty Stride’ to raise funds for the squad. We are not too far off of our target so if you would like, please donate by using the JustGiving link here:

Due to strict Olympic regulations about live broadcasting from the event or even during the official Games period, we were not able to bring you exciting, upfront and personal coverage of our 3 competing athletes. However, the last BNDS camp and races of the season have just finished (in Sweden), so it's a great time to look back on the amazing achievements of our best Youth aged athletes during there races at the Youth Olympic Games back in January.
A reminder that this Saturday in Hyde Park is the NextGen event run by Rollerski Co and Pathway Coach, Jordan Andrews.
If you are aged 11-15 and wanting to get involved in cross country skiing and are based in the London/South East area then sign up to this session now. All details can be found by clicking the link http://www.rollerski.co.uk/nextgen.html

This June, after our first training camp of the new season, some of our athletes along with Jordan will be taking part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk ‘Mighty Stride’ to raise funds for the squad. BNDS receives no funding and is entirely reliant on fundraising as well as the membership and camp fees paid by members to fund our activities. Here in Bruksvallarna, Sweden our younger development athletes are out on snow preparing for competitions this weekend against their Swedish peers. The first race will be a 6.2km and 4.5km on Saturday followed by a downhill race on cross country skis on Sunday. So far this week we have been doing a variety of different training sessions from skate and classic technique to downhill agility and team games. Tomorrow (Friday) we plan to to activation on the race track 🇸🇪
TABITHA WILLIAMS!
Equalling her 21st from Canada last year she continues to be the best British junior female to date! Starting in p.39 she skied though the pack and crossed the finish line in p.21.
It was a hot day in Planica, making snow conditions tricky, but this didn’t slow down Tabby.
She completed the 20km 2 minutes behind race winner Maria Gismondi from Italy.
Well done Tabitha, ski strong into your future ⚡️🇬🇧 #21 📸
Race 2 report - 7.5km Classic - another fine showing from our newest Olympians with every athlete in the top 50 and almost achieving a top half of the field result. With just one track cut, there was a lot of jostling for position with the spread of athletes here but our athletes coped well and find their own ways of solving the tuff but fair course set here.
Once the Games are finished we plan to share some video of the athletes competing so for now a few pictures should wet your appetite.
PLUS - BREAKING NEWS
Our athletes get to race again tomorrow in a Team Sprint. The OC have decided to run an unofficial race for the nations, like ours, without enough athletes to field a mixed relay and to allow those nations here with surplus athletes to get a 3rd race on the Olympic tracks here.
We will be entering 2 teams:
Women's Team - Elspeth Cruikshank & Sophie Forth
Men's (mixed nation) Team GBR/MDA - Thomas Duncan & Mihail Carpov
Race 1 report - 1.5km Skate Sprint - 3 athletes earnt the right to refer to themselves as Olympians today in the best of ways. Sprint PB for Thomas Duncan and within 1 second of Sprint PBs for Elspeth Cruishank and Sophie Forth. They all finished in the mid 40s in fields of 80 odd and put together an excellent race.
Back to back racing here with a 7.5km Classic race tomorrow.
LET'S GO GB, LET'S GO!!!! 🇬🇧
Quick update from the Youth Olympics in South Korea - unfortunately due to strict Olympic TV rights we are able to do any live broadcasts or post video content from any of the Olympic venues so we will post some photos and use the video content to hopefully put together a half decent little movie after the closing ceremony.
We have had 3 training days here now and have one more official training day tomorrow before the first race on Monday which is a 1.4km Skate Sprint. The weather has been cold overnight (-15) but getting pretty roasty in the afternoon (+6) but the snow is holding up really well and the courses are fair but tough as you would expect and all the athletes are loving the downhills.
Life in the athlete's village is hectic but as the week 1 athletes start to leave it will quieten down a little this week. 51 nations are being represented in cross-country with us sharing and waxing with Thailand.
We are all learning a lot about other winter sports and making lots of new friends. YOG is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity and the guys are making the most of it, and so they should 🇬🇧
LET'S GO GB; LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
