Amazing work Leah, congrats and all the best for your future.

Congratulations to Leah who is the winner of the Equity Trainee of the Year for the North Queensland Region Training Awards.

Her story is truly inspirational,
Leah had just been awarded care of her three grandchildren after the passing of her only daughter. She was struggling to get work to support her family and was in need of community support herself to push through this difficult time in her life.

After joining the UpCyclinc Traineeship at the recommendation of one of her friends, Leah gained experience in design and production cycles, as well as skills in tool usage, sewing, painting, online marketing, customer service, sales, and retail. She completed the traineeship and was offered a job within Centacare FNQ upon her completion.

There is no denying that Leah is deserving of the North Queensland Region Equity Student of the Year award, for how strong she has been and how far she has come in the face of adversity.

Our Government is so proud of the impact the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program has on both the wider Queensland community and individuals alike.

Awesome work LCPL Bon serving your community and being proud of what you do. Thanks for sharing Australian Army

“The uniform makes us all green. When the uniform is on, I know I can walk through brick walls and rainstorms with my brothers and sisters beside me.”

CPL Bon is a third-generation ADF member, with her father still serving in RAAF and her grandfather a WWII veteran of the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion.

In her own words:

“I serve because I want to make a difference for my children and my community to live in a country where it's safe, secure, and knowing that our coastlines and lands are always protected by soldiers who are constantly on the road and on boats, who are always ready to protect and defend our people, our country and our nation.

I am a proud NORFORCE soldier and I serve to protect my people, my country and my nation.”
