Our History Since 1999
Curling in Singapore started way back in 1998 when the âEquatorial Curling Clubâ (ECC) was founded, and officially registered on 21 February 1999 by a group of experienced expatriates and locals who were interested in the game. The clubâs rocks are on loan from United States Curling Associationâs âHall of Fameâ recipient, Mr Kaytaro Sugahara. Curling back then was played in two shopping centres - Leisure Park Kallang from the year 2000 and subsequently, Jurong Entertainment Centre from 2006.
In 2001, âCurling Association (Singapore)â was formed and registered by the founders of the ECC. The ultimate goal of the association is to attain World Curling Federation (WCF) membership status. With the closure of the Jurong Entertainment Centre in 2008, the club and association went into hibernation until the year 2009 when news of the new ice rink at JCube Shopping Mall was announced.
While news of the new facility re-ignited hopes of curling in Singapore again, many old members had already left the country or were no longer available to play, leaving a committee of five members to keep curling running in Singapore. The committee since then has made tremendous efforts over the years to grow the sport and generate interest in the country.
