our story
SPACE FOR DESIGN was born out of the cooperation between product designer Sara Mellone and the aluminium company Hydro. Design meets the industry.
When a small design studio suddenly gets the opportunity to use the resources of a big manufacturer, the opportunities become endless. The initial idea was to develop a beautiful product to show the world that aluminium is not just functional but as well aesthetically interesting. Soon we discovered how much potential there was. One idea led to the next and we ended up with a whole product range that we got very excited about. A shame if this ideas would have stayed on paper. Sara Mellone decided to launch SPACE FOR DESIGN and give this extraordinaire products a SPACE.
The name SPACE FOR DESIGN comes from the idea of giving design more space in the industry. Giving young designers the opportunity to be taken serious and valued. We want to sell products that will last, are well made from sustainable materials and can be recycled at the end of their live. We are proud to only produce in Europe with partners that we value and trust.
